TV-Series
Description
Black Mist, known as Kurogiri, is a significant antagonist whose true nature is deeply intertwined with the tragic history of the series. His body is composed entirely of a dark purple or black mist, from which only his glowing yellow eyes are visible. He typically wears an elegant suit and a distinctive metal brace that covers his neck and lower face. Despite his intangible appearance, he has confirmed that he possesses a physical body, organs, and blood, which is usually hidden within his gaseous form.

Black Mist is defined by a calm, level-headed, and exceptionally polite personality, often greeting his enemies with formal respect. This composed demeanor serves as a direct contrast to the immaturity and impulsiveness of his master, Tomura Shigaraki, whom he frequently tries to ground and advise. However, this courtesy belies a truly sinister nature, as he has no qualms about threatening or participating in the torture and murder of heroes and students alike. His core motivation is an unwavering loyalty to his creator and master, All For One, and his primary directive is to serve and protect Tomura Shigaraki.

In the story, Black Mist acts as the logistical backbone for the League of Villains. His primary role is to use his Quirk, Warp Gate, to teleport allies, create diversions, and control the battlefield. He is instrumental in the villains' first major attack on U.A. High School's Unforeseen Simulation Joint, where he single-handedly neutralizes the hero Thirteen and scatters Class 1-A to prevent their escape. He also serves as a key intermediary, recruiting other villains like the Hero Killer: Stain to the cause. Throughout the series, he remains a constant presence by Shigaraki's side, acting as both a bodyguard and a caretaker.

His most defining relationships are with Tomura Shigaraki and All For One. He was created specifically to watch over and nurture Tomura, a task he performs with absolute dedication. He often acts as a mentor figure, attempting to temper Shigaraki's destructive impulses with logic and strategy. His loyalty to All For One is absolute, as he follows his orders without question, having been programmed to do so as a high-end Nomu.

The most significant development of Black Mist's character is the revelation that he is not a natural-born villain but a creation. He is a sophisticated, intelligent Nomu, whose original body was that of Oboro Shirakumo, a former U.A. High School student and the beloved friend of heroes Shota Aizawa (Eraserhead) and Hizashi Yamada (Present Mic). After Shirakumo was killed in an accident, his corpse was recovered by All For One and transformed into Kurogiri, his memories and personality overwritten to serve as a tool for villainy. This tragic origin makes him a victim with no autonomy, a stark contrast to other villains who made conscious choices. In the final arc, fragments of Shirakumo's consciousness briefly resurface, but Black Mist ultimately remains a tragic figure whose will is subservient to his programming to protect Shigaraki.

Black Mist's notable abilities stem entirely from his Quirk, Warp Gate. This power allows him to generate and manipulate a dark mist that functions as a portal, capable of transporting anything that enters it to another location. These portals are based on spatial coordinates, requiring Black Mist to know the exact position of his target destination. He can create portals on a large scale, moving dozens of people at once, or use them defensively to warp away incoming attacks. His gaseous body provides a natural form of evasion, as physical strikes pass through him harmlessly unless they hit the central anchor point where his physical body is concealed. This combination of long-range teleportation and battlefield control makes him an invaluable asset to the League of Villains, with a threat level that is considered incredibly high.
