Description
Atomu Kai is a male character from the anime Girls Beyond the Wasteland, where he is a second-year high school student. Standing at 165 centimeters tall with a gentle and delicate appearance, he has been given the nickname plant-type boy by his friends due to his calm and unassuming nature. His features are notably soft, and when he cross-dresses, his appearance is so convincing that he can easily pass for a beautiful girl.

In terms of personality, Atomu is fundamentally friendly, warm, and sincere. He tends to be shy and reserved around people he does not know well, but once he becomes comfortable with someone, he opens up and becomes quite talkative. Despite his kindness, he struggles with feelings of inadequacy, largely stemming from a painful experience in his past. He previously had a girlfriend who broke up with him, telling him that being kind was not enough, a comment that has left a deep emotional scar. This heartbreak has made him wary of romantic involvement with real-life girls, causing him to keep a certain distance in his interactions with them.

Atomu works a part-time job at a supermarket, typically handling tasks in the back, where he enjoys the peaceful conversations he has with the older women who work there. Like his close friend Buntaro Hojo, Atomu feels lost and uncertain about his future, struggling to find a clear purpose or goal for his life. This sense of aimlessness is a significant part of his personal background and drives much of his involvement in the story. He joins a project led by Sayuki Kuroda to create a game, motivated by his friendships with Buntaro and Yuka Kobayakawa, as well as a desire to find meaning and direction.

Within the group working on the game, Atomu takes on the role of assistant director, a position focused on project management, planning, and coordination. He ensures that tasks are completed smoothly and that the development process runs efficiently behind the scenes. Sayuki Kuroda considers this role vital yet often underappreciated, stating that only a truly talented and dedicated individual can fulfill it consistently. Although his work is not flashy, his organizational skills and reliability make him indispensable to the team's progress.

Atomu shares a strong bond with Buntaro Hojo and Yuka Kobayakawa, forming a close trio of friends. He is trusted by his peers and is known for being supportive and dependable, even while he maintains a degree of emotional caution regarding romance. His past relationship continues to influence his behavior, but he remains a valued and essential member of the group, providing stability and logistical support as they work toward their shared goal. Throughout the story, his gentle nature and behind-the-scenes contributions prove to be as crucial as the more visible talents of his teammates.
