Description
Kirie Konami is a seventeen-year-old A-Rank agent and a key member of the Tamakoma Branch, specifically its First Division. She was one of the earliest recruits to the Border organization, having joined before her colleague Yūichi Jin. Within the attacker position, she holds the rank of the number three fighter, having previously achieved the number one spot during a period when other top combatants were inactive.

In appearance, Konami has long, strawberry-blonde hair that reaches her waist, often styled with a long, feather-like cowlick, and blue eyes. Outside of combat, she typically wears her school uniform, which consists of a red sweater over a sailor outfit with a black collar and a black pleated skirt. When she manifests her Trion body for battle, her hair becomes shorter and her uniform transforms into a black and gray jumpsuit with long sleeves that function as gloves, along with tall boots.

Konami possesses a personality with several contrasting layers. She is notably naïve and gullible, which makes her an easy target for jokes and deception from her teammates, particularly Kyōsuke Karasuma and Yūichi Jin, and later her student Yūma Kuga. This leads to her being short-tempered and prone to causing a loud commotion over minor issues, such as when her snacks were given away to visitors. Despite a tough exterior, she is actually quite shy and becomes easily flustered when complimented, trying to mask her embarrassment with a show of strength. Due to these traits, she is often characterized as a tsundere. She has a well-known fondness for sweets and snacks and strongly dislikes having to share them. Underneath her childish and volatile surface, Konami is deeply loyal to her comrades and holds lasting grudges against anyone who harms them.

Konami’s primary motivation in her role as a combatant is her disdain for weakness, which directly influences her choice to mentor Yūma Kuga, as she immediately recognized him as the strongest among a group of new recruits. She serves as Yūma’s mentor, a role she initially accepted only because it was an order from the branch leader and on the condition that she could train the strongest candidate. Her straightforward and powerful combat philosophy matches her personality, focusing on overwhelming offense rather than complex strategy.

Within the story, Konami acts as a formidable fighter for the Tamakoma Branch. She plays a significant role during the Large-Scale Invasion arc, where she is dispatched to help defend the city. In this conflict, she confronts the powerful neighbor Viza, using her intuition to sense the danger of his Black Trigger before engaging him in battle. She is later ordered to pursue and destroy Trion soldiers heading toward civilian evacuation shelters, a task she completes with notable efficiency and support from other squads.

Her key relationships are central to her character. She is a member of Tamakoma First alongside Reiji Kizaki and Kyōsuke Karasuma, with whom she has fought since the early days of Border. She affectionately and uniquely refers to Karasuma as Torimaru. She is also cousins with Jun Arashiyama of Arashiyama Squad, and the two are on friendly terms. Her relationship with her student, Yūma Kuga, began with a sparring match to settle his disrespectful attitude, resulting in a score of nine wins for her and one for him. While she initially seemed to dislike Osamu Mikumo for his lack of strength, she grew to care for him, visiting him when he was hospitalized and becoming enraged when others tried to blame him for the aftokrator invasion. Conversely, she holds a strong resentment toward Hyuse, a former enemy neighbor, due to his past actions of kidnapping Border agents and nearly killing Osamu, and she initially refuses to accept him as a comrade.

As a fighter, Konami is exceptionally powerful, with her strength estimated to be comparable to that of a whole squad on its own. Her fighting style favors pure, overwhelming firepower and mobility, ignoring trion efficiency, and her movements have been compared to those of a neighbor rather than a typical Border agent. She is very fast and agile, capable of easily dodging attacks from multiple large enemies called Rabbits. Her primary Trigger is Sōgetsu, a curved-blade knife exclusive to the Tamakoma Branch, which she dual-wields. Using a secondary Trigger called Connector, she can combine the two Sōgetsu into a massive battle axe that, while heavy, she can swing with ease to deliver devastating attacks. In addition to her blades, she is proficient with the shooter Trigger Meteor, which she uses to scatter explosive bullets at close to mid-range, a tactic her opponents have described as highly dangerous. Her combat parameters are remarkably high, with perfect scores of 10 in Mobility, a 13 in Attack, and a total parameter score of 55. Notably, she emerged from both the Aftokrator invasion and a subsequent assault by the nation of Galopoula without any injuries, despite rarely using defensive Triggers.

Throughout the series, Konami demonstrates development in her relationships, particularly moving from a place of judgment based on strength to one of genuine care for weaker allies like Osamu. Her role as a mentor also evolves from a forced assignment to a source of pride in her student’s accomplishments, such as being visibly happy when her student’s squad wins matches. Her interactions with Hyuse also show a slight nuance, as she is later shown to be visibly worried about him when he is cornered in a difficult battle, suggesting a potential softening of her harsh grudge.
