Description
Gatlin is a Neighbor and the captain of the expeditionary force sent to Earth from the nation of Galopoula. He is a tall, well-built man with cropped dark hair, a noticeable scar running down from his forehead to the left side of his face, and stubble on his chin. Beyond his role as a military leader, Gatlin has a family, having married and fathered an eight-year-old son, which provides a personal dimension to his character.
His personality is defined by a careful and cunning nature. Rather than pursuing outright destruction, Gatlin prefers strategic, non-violent methods to achieve his objectives, a decision born from his understanding of political manipulation. He correctly deduces that the nation of Aftokrator intended for Border to target Galopoula, and he acts to counter that plan. Even in the face of defeat, Gatlin remains composed and does not lose his temper; instead, he continues to acknowledge and praise the abilities of his opponents. This level-headedness, combined with his strategic thinking, makes him a highly effective commander whose subordinates follow his orders without question.
Gatlin leads the Galopoula force during their intrusion into Border headquarters with a specific mission to cripple the organization's offensive capabilities, primarily by destroying their away ship. He uses a disguise Trigger to infiltrate the base, appearing as a large Trion soldier known as an Idra, alongside his comrades Rata and Wen Sō. During the attack, he is identified by Border agent Tsukihiko Amō as being in the same class of power as Masafumi Shinoda, Border's most powerful normal Trigger user. He engages directly with three of Border's top four attackers—Kei Tachikawa, Kirie Konami, and Kō Murakami—simultaneously and holds his own against them, proving his immense combat prowess. His defeat is ultimately not a result of being overpowered in a fair fight, but due to a combination of a sneak attack from Sōya Kazama and the precognitive abilities of Jin, which his opponents used to their advantage. Following the failed mission, Gatlin retreats calmly, demonstrating his resilience by noting that they still have time to devise another plan.
Gatlin’s abilities are formidable and varied, built around a set of unique Triggers. His primary weapon is Vasilissa, a large backpack-mounted unit that deploys four durable, spider-like mechanical arms, each ending in a sharp blade. This Trigger gives him an exceptional reach and allows him to attack and defend against multiple opponents at once; he can also use the arms to scale vertical surfaces and, if a blade is destroyed, replace it with a flat shield. His secondary Trigger is a powerful cannon that fits into the stump of one of Vasilissa’s arms. This weapon fires a devastating beam capable of piercing a reinforced Trion wall, though it requires several minutes to recharge after each shot and produces a powerful recoil that Gatlin counters by anchoring Vasilissa’s other arms into the ground. He also possesses a shield Trigger that creates durable pentagonal barriers, strong enough to block slashes from the Black Trigger Fūjin. Additional Triggers include a disguise ability to mimic people or Trion soldiers and a summon Trigger that deploys small portal-linked dogs for scouting. During battle, Gatlin demonstrates not just raw power but also a sharp tactical mind, analyzing the fighting styles of his enemies mid-combat and adapting to them. An official parameter list rates his overall combat ability at 66 out of 80, with his highest scores being in Attack at 13 and Trion at 10.
