Description
Hiromi Shiota is the mother of Nagisa Shiota. She is described as a pretty woman with a strict appearance, bearing a strong resemblance to her son. In the anime, her short hair is depicted as dark navy blue, indicating that Nagisa inherited his blue hair from her.

Outwardly, Hiromi presents herself as a graceful and calm beauty, but this surface-level composure hides a deeply controlling and unstable personality. When displeased or defied, she can quickly become hysterical, shouting and lashing out in fits of rage. Her defining trait is her obsessive need to control her son's life, forcing her own frustrated dreams and desired path onto him. If Nagisa shows any reluctance, she is not above using physical violence, such as yanking his hair.

Hiromi's motivations stem from her own unhappy and strictly controlled childhood. Her parents forced her to focus solely on her studies, never allowing her to enjoy her youth or express her femininity by growing her hair or dressing as she liked. This upbringing, combined with her own academic and professional failures—specifically, not getting into a top university or a prestigious trading company—left her with deep feelings of inferiority and regret. To compensate, she decided to live vicariously through her child. She had desperately wanted a daughter whom she could raise to have the life she was denied. When Nagisa was born a boy, she was deeply disappointed and began treating him as a substitute daughter, forcing him to keep his long hair and wear feminine clothes.

Hiromi plays the role of a primary antagonist in Nagisa's personal life. Her most significant action is attempting to force Nagisa to transfer out of Class E and back to the main campus. Believing she knows what is best for him, she schedules a meeting with his homeroom teacher. When the teacher (Korosensei in disguise) refuses her demands and tells her that Nagisa's life is his own, she flies into a rage. Not giving up, she later drugs Nagisa's dinner and takes him to the Class E building in the middle of the night, handing him a torch and ordering him to set it on fire. Her plan is to leave him with no place to return to, forcing him back onto the path she has chosen for him. This event represents the climax of her controlling behavior.

Her most important relationship is, of course, with her son, Nagisa. Their relationship is initially depicted as toxic and prison-like, with Hiromi acting as the guard. It is implied that her controlling and "semi-psychotic" temper was the direct cause of her husband leaving the family. Nagisa learned to read people's emotions from constantly having to gauge his mother's moods, which ironically became the foundation for his talent as an潜在 assassin. Her relationship with Nagisa's father is strained; they are separated, and possibly divorced, due to her behavior. However, they reconcile in the final chapters of the story and announce at Nagisa's graduation that they plan to get back together as a family. Her relationship with her own parents is the source of her trauma, as she repeats their pattern of oppressive control with her own son.

Hiromi undergoes significant development. Her turning point comes when she realizes that her actions have put both herself and Nagisa in real danger from a hidden assassin targeting Korosensei. Nagisa saves her life and bravely confronts her, telling her that he is grateful to her but that his life is his own. Shocked by his confession and his willingness to leave her, she faints. The next morning, she reluctantly agrees to let him stay in Class E, on the condition that he helps with housework. Her healing continues at the school festival, where she sees Nagisa happy and enjoying the youth she never had. She finally acknowledges that her child is a separate being and promises to support him as "Nagisa's mother". When the truth about Korosensei becomes public, she accepts Nagisa's decision to fight, proving that she has finally let go of her need to control him.

Hiromi has not displayed any unique or notable physical abilities. Her primary impact on the story is psychological, as her oppressive parenting style is a key factor in shaping Nagisa's personality and his abilities as an assassin.
