TV-Series
Description
The character known as the God of Death, or the Reaper, is a secondary antagonist introduced during the second major story arc of the series. His real name is never revealed, and he operates primarily under the title he stole from his former master.

In his original human form, the God of Death appears as a fairly young man with silver hair and amber eyes. A defining and gruesome feature of his appearance is that his face lacks skin, a condition he inflicted upon himself to allow him to perfectly mimic the facial structure of anyone he chooses. In daily life, he often wears the appearance of his original, innocent-looking face, which gives him a friendly and approachable demeanor. When working as an assassin, he typically dresses in black clothing.

The God of Death was born into an extremely wealthy family. His life changed course one night when he witnessed his father being assassinated by the original God of Death, who was then known as the world's greatest killer. Instead of feeling horror or grief, the young boy was filled with admiration for the assassin's skill. He immediately approached the killer and asked to become his apprentice. The original God of Death accepted, seeing potential in the boy as a tool to be refined.

For several years, the young apprentice trained under his master, studying the art of assassination with a singular focus. His primary motivation was to receive praise and recognition from his teacher. However, the original God of Death never acknowledged his apprentice's talents, treating him solely as an instrument to be polished. Unable to endure this lack of recognition for his skills and efforts, the apprentice meticulously planned his revenge. During a mission, he betrayed his master, orchestrating his capture by authorities. At the moment of the original God of Death's capture, the apprentice revealed his self-mutilated face to his stunned teacher before leaving him to his fate. After this betrayal, he usurped his master's title and became the new God of Death, a world-renowned assassin.

As one of the world's best assassins, the God of Death is ruthless, cunning, and entirely amoral, willing to employ any method to achieve his goals. He views assassination as a form of art that he constantly seeks to perfect. He maintains a perpetually amicable smile that makes him appear to be a kind, harmless person, but this demeanor masks a complete lack of concern for others. He considers the students of Class 3-E to be nothing more than obstacles and has no hesitation in attempting to drown them or using violent force against them. His passive, smiling exterior is so convincing that it can prevent others from feeling a natural sense of fear, a quality that other characters find deeply unsettling.

Despite his cold exterior, his past reveals a deep-seated, lingering desire for the approval he never received from his master. This hidden wound drives much of his later behavior, even when he returns augmented with tentacles.

In the story, the God of Death first appears disguised as a florist. His primary role is to serve as a major obstacle for both the students of Class 3-E and Korosensei. He captures Irina Jelavic, the class's language teacher and a former assassin, and lures the students and Korosensei into a trap. He demonstrates his overwhelming superiority by effortlessly defeating the entire combat team of Class 3-E in less than a minute. He successfully imprisons both the students and Korosensei, showcasing his meticulous planning and intellect. He later receives a powerful tentacle enhancement from the scientist Shiro, becoming an even more formidable physical threat, capable of moving at Mach 40, twice the speed of Korosensei, and possessing enough strength to destroy a large building in seconds.

The key relationships that define him are with his former master, the original God of Death who became Korosensei, and with Irina Jelavic, whom he manipulates by falsely claiming a shared tragic past to secure her cooperation. His development is tragic; he remains fixated on obtaining his master's acknowledgment until his final moments. After an intense battle with Korosensei, during which he seriously injures Kaede Kayano, he is defeated. In his dying moments, he finally receives the recognition from his master that he had always craved, bringing a twisted closure to his character arc.

The God of Death possesses a wide array of exceptional abilities befitting the world's greatest assassin. He has extraordinary skill in disguise, able to hide his bloodlust until the last possible moment, and his facelessness allows him to assume any appearance perfectly. He can project his bloodlust in a way that it cloaks his body, rendering him visible only as a disorienting shadow. He is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat, matching the government agent Karasuma. His speed and precision are legendary; he can neutralize multiple targets in seconds and land shots with incredible accuracy, such as sniping a target inside a moving train or removing all of Korosensei's tentacles when the teacher was moving at less than Mach 2. His unique hidden weapon, the Invisible Scythe, is a tiny pistol concealed within his finger. Using his knowledge of human anatomy, he can shoot a target's aorta, causing fatal bleeding from the heart. He is also a brilliant strategist and planner, capable of hacking into artificial intelligence, remotely controlling explosive collars, and setting up complex systems of cameras and doors. After being enhanced with tentacles, his physical form becomes a larger, darker version of Korosensei's appearance, granting him vastly increased speed, strength, and destructive power, though his movements could be hampered by anti-tentacle barriers.
