Description
Dio della Morte, a name that translates to God of Death, serves as a significant antagonist in the story. The title itself has a history, as it originally belonged to the being who would later become known as Koro-sensei. The character who assumes this name is the original God of Death's former apprentice, who ultimately betrayed his master and usurped his title to become a world-renowned assassin.

This character was born into a wealthy family, yet his early life was marked by a profound lack of love and emotional connection. A pivotal event occurred when he witnessed his father being killed by an assassin, the man who was then known as the God of Death. Instead of feeling horror, the young boy was filled with an indescribable admiration for the killer's skill and begged to be taken on as an apprentice. The original God of Death reluctantly agreed, seeing a potential use for the boy.

For several years, the boy trained under his master, desperately striving for his approval and praise. However, his master never saw him as a successor or a person, but merely as a tool to be polished and used. The apprentice's suggestions and proposals were consistently ignored, and the lack of recognition for his growing talents became unbearable. On a mission where his master was unarmed and infiltrating a prison facility, the apprentice saw his opportunity for revenge. He formed a deal with the research lab run by a figure known as Shiro, arranging for agents to be on standby to capture his mentor. At the moment of the original God of Death's capture, the apprentice revealed that he had mutilated his own face, removing the skin to prove his dedication to his new path and to allow him to take on any appearance. He then coldly bid his former master farewell, leaving him to be imprisoned and experimented upon. Subsequently, he claimed the name God of Death for himself and became the most feared and skilled assassin in the world.

In terms of personality, the second God of Death is ruthless, cunning, and profoundly bitter. Having been starved of affection and treated as a disposable tool, he developed a deep-seated egoism and a sadistic streak. He views assassination not merely as a job but as a form of art, a discipline he constantly seeks to perfect through any means necessary, no matter how amoral. His deep-seated envy is directed at the students of Class 3-E, who have something he was never able to obtain: the genuine, caring love and acknowledgement of a teacher. This envy fuels his desire to harm them and to prove his superiority, especially over his former master.

The character's primary motivation is rooted in a desperate need for acknowledgment. His entire life as an assassin, from betraying his master to constantly honing his skills, stems from the initial wound of being ignored. This drive reaches its peak when he learns of the vast bounty on Koro-sensei's head. He accepts the challenge, initially not realizing that his target is the very master who scorned him. After being defeated in his first encounter by Tadaomi Karasuma, the God of Death is taken in once more by Shiro. He is offered a chance to become a super-powered being through the injection of experimental anti-matter tentacles, a process similar to what created Koro-sensei. Fully aware that this transformation would reduce his remaining lifespan to a mere three months, he accepts without hesitation. His only desire is to obtain the same, if not greater, power as his former master so he can finally defeat him and in doing so, force the acknowledgment he always craved.

His role in the story is that of a formidable secondary antagonist. He first appears disguised as a friendly florist, using this innocuous cover to get close to and manipulate Irina Jelavic, a fellow assassin who works as the Class E language teacher. He exploits her feelings for Karasuma to turn her against the class, using her help to capture the students and trap Koro-sensei. His confrontation with the E Class pushes them to their limits, demonstrating the vast gap in ability between professional assassins and the students, while also setting the stage for Karasuma to prove his own formidable combat skills.

The most significant relationship is, of course, with his former master, Koro-sensei. The God of Death's actions are defined by this painful pupil-master bond, which curdled from desperate admiration to bitter hatred and envy. Another key relationship is with Irina Jelavic, whom he seduces and manipulates by acknowledging her skills in a way her own master never did, mirroring his own tragic history. His relationship with the students of Class 3-E is one of pure antagonism; he sees them as a threat to be eliminated and as a representation of the loving teacher-student dynamic he never had.

The God of Death undergoes a notable development in his final moments. After receiving the tentacle enhancement, he becomes a monstrous, giant creature of immense power, capable of moving at speeds of Mach 40 and destroying an entire thirty-story building in seconds. He overpowers Koro-sensei and nearly kills the student Kaede Kayano. This brutal act pushes Koro-sensei beyond his limits, causing him to release an energy beam that begins to disintegrate the God of Death. In his final moments, as his body fades away, the two share an emotional moment, reverting to their human forms. In this space between life and death, the God of Death finally seems to receive the acknowledgement from his master that he had always wanted, allowing him to find a measure of peace before he completely vanishes.

The character possesses a wide array of notable abilities. Even before his transformation, he was considered the world's greatest assassin. His most unique skill is his mastery of disguise, made possible because he removed his own facial skin; he can perfectly mimic the appearance of anyone. He can project an overwhelming bloodlust that manifests as a formless shadow, deeply unsettling his enemies. He is incredibly fast and skilled in hand-to-hand combat, able to neutralize the entire battle team of Class E in under a minute, a level of ability only matched by Karasuma among normal humans. He is also an exceptionally precise sniper, capable of hitting a moving target inside a train. His intelligence is formidable; he is a master planner and a skilled hacker, easily imprisoning the entire class and even Koro-sensei using remote explosive collars and complex camera and door systems. His signature technique is the Invisible Scythe, a hidden micro-pistol inside his finger that fires a projectile capable of severing the aorta, causing fatal hemorrhaging. After his tentacle upgrade, his physical abilities balloon to superhuman levels, granting him incredible speed, strength, and destructive power far exceeding that of Koro-sensei.
