TV-Series
Description
Koro-sensei, often referred to as Professor Koro, is the central character of the anime Assassination Classroom. He is a yellow, octopus-like creature with a round face, a permanently fixed smiling expression, and a set of tentacle-like appendages that he can stretch, reshape, and control with great precision. He typically wears a black academic gown and a mortarboard hat, giving him the outward appearance of a teacher despite his monstrous form. He serves as the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School, a group of students placed in a separate, rundown building on the school grounds and treated as outcasts by the rest of the institution.

The story revolves around his declaration that he has destroyed part of the moon, leaving it in a permanent crescent shape, and that he will destroy the Earth in the same manner after one year. However, he makes an arrangement with the government: he will spend that year teaching Class 3-E, and the students will be given the mission of assassinating him before the deadline. The students are armed with special anti-sensei weaponry and receive training to carry out this task, which forms the unusual premise of the series.

In personality, Koro-sensei is cheerful, eccentric, and highly theatrical, often acting in a comical and playful manner around his students. He teases them, engages in silly activities, and is quick to cry or become sentimental over small victories. Beneath this entertaining exterior, he is genuinely kind, patient, and devoted to his students' well-being. He knows each student's individual strengths, weaknesses, and personal struggles, and he works to help them improve not only academically but also as people. His teaching methods are unconventional and sometimes bizarre, but they are consistently effective. When the situation demands it, he can become serious and intimidating, particularly when protecting his students or confronting genuine threats.

Koro-sensei's background is tragic. He was originally a human born in an impoverished slum who became a professional assassin and eventually rose to become one of the most skilled killers in the world. During his career, he encountered several figures who would shape his fate, including Professor Yanagisawa, a scientist who carried out experiments on him, and the second Reaper, a former student who became a formidable enemy. He was captured and subjected to antimatter-based experimentation, which transformed him into the yellow tentacled creature he is in the present. In this new form, he was feared and rejected by humanity and was scheduled for execution before escaping. His stated plan to destroy the Earth is connected to this past, but as the story progresses it becomes clear that his deeper purpose is to make amends for his former life and to guide his students toward capable futures.

His role in the story is that of both the central figure and the primary target. The students of Class 3-E are expected to kill him, yet over the course of the school year they develop a deep bond with him. He becomes far more than a target; he becomes their mentor, a father figure, and a source of inspiration. The emotional conflict between the students' duty to assassinate him and their growing trust and affection for him is a central theme of the narrative. His own development involves confronting his painful past, accepting responsibility for his actions, and ultimately choosing how to face his destiny.

In terms of relationships, Koro-sensei cares deeply for every member of Class 3-E, though he shares particularly close connections with Nagisa Shiota, whose quiet observational talents he recognizes and encourages, and Karma Akabane, whose raw potential he works to channel constructively. He also develops meaningful relationships with the adults around him. Irina Jelavić begins as a professional assassin hired to replace him but later becomes a language teacher and a trusted colleague. Karasuma, the government agent and military instructor assigned to the class, shares a professional relationship with Koro-sensei built on mutual respect despite their opposing goals. His past ties him to Professor Yanagisawa, the scientist responsible for his transformation, and to the second Reaper, who was once his student before becoming one of his greatest adversaries.

Koro-sensei possesses a wide range of extraordinary abilities. He can move at speeds up to Mach 20, allowing him to evade nearly any attack and travel vast distances in moments. He can regenerate from almost any injury, including being reduced to a liquid state, and he can reshape his body into various forms or imitate objects and weapons. His body is composed of antimatter, which grants him immense power but also makes him unstable. He also possesses superhuman strength and agility, and he is a brilliant strategist who can analyze opponents and situations almost instantly. Beyond his combat abilities, his greatest skill is his talent for teaching; he can identify a student's weaknesses and craft personalized lessons to help them improve. His name reflects his dual nature, as it combines korosu, meaning to kill, with sensei, meaning teacher, capturing his role as both an assassination target and an educator.
