Description
Draguliel Pertegomidus, more commonly known by his nickname Drakon, is a character who appears primarily in the prequel series. His full name is Draguliel Henrius Nodomis Pertegomidus, and he hails from a noble family within the Partevia Empire, a militaristic nation where his family held the position of generals for many generations. In his youth, Drakon possessed a completely human appearance, characterized by long dark green hair and amber eyes, a form drastically different from his later dragon-like visage.
His background is rooted in a deep sense of duty and patriotism. As the son of a general, he rose through the ranks to become a Commander Officer in the Partevia Empire Army at the young age of fourteen. Driven by a strong sense of responsibility to his nation, he was a sincere and disciplined individual, though he could also be proud and somewhat rigid in his thinking. His life took a pivotal turn when a dungeon named Baal appeared within the empire's borders. During a war with the Reim Empire, the Partevian Emperor sought the immense power within the dungeon. After many soldiers failed and died, Drakon was ordered to conquer it. In his quest to recruit a force for this dangerous mission, he arrived at a remote village and forcibly enlisted a young man named Sinbad, an act that immediately created a tense and adversarial relationship between them.
Within the dungeon, Drakon and Sinbad were the only two to reach the treasure chamber where the djinn Baal resided. The two fought each other to decide who would claim the power, and Drakon was defeated by Sinbad, who then became the first dungeon conqueror in history. This defeat marked a turning point. Despite the initial animosity, Drakon began to recognize Sinbad's strength and capabilities. However, upon his return to the Partevia Empire, the emperor was furious that an outsider had obtained the Metal Vessel and ordered Drakon to capture Sinbad. This placed him in a difficult position, forced to choose between his sworn loyalty to his homeland and the dawning respect for his rival.
Drakon plays a significant role as one of the first allies and key figures in Sinbad’s journey. He eventually becomes one of the Eight Generals of Sindria, the kingdom founded by Sinbad, serving as a trusted and powerful member of his inner circle. His motivations shift over time from simple patriotic service to the Partevia Empire toward a personal loyalty to Sinbad and the ideals of Sindria. His sense of duty remains a core trait, but the object of that loyalty changes as he witnesses Sinbad's leadership.
A crucial aspect of his development involves his physical transformation into a dragon-like being. This change is a consequence of his connection to Sinbad and the power he wields. Drakon possesses a Household Vessel, an item that grants him abilities derived from the djinn Baal. This particular vessel is known as the Vessel of the Hard Scale God, which allows him to encase his body in dragon scales for both offensive and defensive purposes. The use of this power initiated a process of assimilation with his dragon familiar, causing him to lose his human form and permanently take on a scaly, reptilian appearance. This transformation is a physical manifestation of his bond with Sinbad and the sacrifices made along the way. In the main Magi series, after significant changes to the world's magical systems, this Household Vessel loses its power, and Drakon eventually reverts to his original human form.
In terms of key relationships, Drakon has a complex history with the First Imperial Princess of Partevia, Serendine, whom he knew from childhood and for whom he held deep affection. He eventually marries a woman named Rahel, who was a servant to Princess Serendine and a wind magic user. Among the other generals, he shares a close comradery with Hinahoho, often interacting with him during their duties in Sindria. Despite his intimidating appearance and serious demeanor, Sinbad himself has stated that Drakon is a sincere man. He also has a noted weakness for his wife and a particular fondness for teaching his subordinates.
Regarding his notable abilities, Drakon is a highly skilled swordsman and military tactician. His most distinctive power is the ability to breathe fire, a trait that stems from his dragon-like nature. His Household Vessel grants him the incredible defensive power of the Hard Scale God, allowing his scales to absorb and deflect impacts, turning defense into a form of attack. This power also enhances his physical strength to superhuman levels.
