Description
Mikuni Alicein is the Eve of Doubt Doubt, the Servamp of Envy, and the older half-brother of Misono Alicein. He was born as the first son of Mikado Alicein, a wealthy aristocrat, and grew up in a privileged household with private tutoring. Among his tutors was the woman who would later become Misono’s mother, with whom Mikado had an affair. When Mikuni’s mother discovered the affair, she murdered Misono’s mother in a fit of jealousy. Afterward, Misono was brought into the Alicein family, and Mikuni came to genuinely love his new younger brother, even knowing the circumstances of his birth. However, he developed a deep resentment toward his father for the betrayal.
Years later, Mikuni’s mother lost control of the power of Doubt Doubt, the Servamp of Envy, which had been overflowing within her. Consumed by jealousy, she attempted to kill Misono. To protect his brother, Mikuni killed his own mother, an act witnessed by the young Misono. After this traumatic event, Mikuni formed a contract with Doubt Doubt, renaming him Jeje, and fled the Alicein manor permanently. He spent some time homeless before being taken in by Tsurugi Kamiya, a member of the C3 organization. Mikuni joined C3 and worked alongside Tsurugi, but their relationship soured over time, largely because Mikuni was unwilling to kill humans in the way Tsurugi did, and he eventually left the group, though he retained certain connections with its upper leadership.
Mikuni presents himself as eccentric and flamboyant. He often behaves in a childish, teasing manner, and his most notable quirk is his intense attachment to a small female doll named Abel, which he carries everywhere. He becomes defensive and scolds anyone he perceives as looking at the doll inappropriately. This outward whimsy often frustrates both Misono and Jeje. Beneath this mask, however, Mikuni is deeply perceptive, calculating, and manipulative. He possesses a pragmatic and ruthless side, showing little hesitation in killing those he deems too dangerous. His personality is a studied duality: a playful surface that conceals a cold, sorrowful core.
Mikuni’s primary motivation is the protection of his younger brother Misono, whom he loves unconditionally. He carries guilt over the events that tore his family apart and distances himself from others to shield them from his own darkness. Despite his often antagonistic behavior, he acts as an unpredictable ally to the other Eves and Servamps, monitoring the movements of all Servamps while running his antique shop. He initially approaches Mahiru Shirota in the role of a mentor, offering guidance about the dangers of being an Eve.
Key relationships define much of his role. His bond with Misono is the most central: they were close in childhood but became estranged after Mikuni’s mother’s death, with Misono’s memories of the incident manipulated by Lily. Mikuni keeps a collection of photos of Misono and still cares for him deeply, even as Misono struggles with conflicted feelings. With his Servamp Jeje, Mikuni maintains a teasing, sometimes exploitative dynamic—he does not allow Jeje to drink his blood, a notable exception among Eves. His relationship with Tsurugi Kamiya devolved into mutual antagonism, though Tsurugi looks back on their time together with nostalgia. Mikuni openly resents his father Mikado, though Mikado continues to wish for reconciliation.
As an Eve, Mikuni possesses a unique weapon called a Lead, named My Fair Lady. The Lead manifests as a rope connected to his doll Abel. In combat, a spectral female figure appears holding the rope, which extends to the target’s neck and binds them. Once bound, Abel’s weight increases in proportion to the burden of the target’s sins, strangling them. The ability functions only against individuals who have taken human lives, restricting its use to those Mikuni judges guilty of murder. In addition to this combat skill, Mikuni is highly intelligent, a skilled chess player, and capable of strategic thinking. He also appears able to play the violin and enjoys reading.
