Description
Hibiki Kazaguruma is the protagonist of the anime Brave Beats. He is a boy in the sixth grade, around twelve to thirteen years old, with a cheerful disposition. Despite his generally upbeat nature, he is also depicted as level-headed and somewhat mild-tempered, often appearing oblivious to his surroundings and content with things as they are. One of his most defining traits is his reluctance to try new things, which stems from a deep-seated insecurity about his own abilities. This is most evident in his initial dislike of dancing, an activity he finds far outside his comfort zone and which makes him feel embarrassed and easily overwhelmed.

His disinterest in dance is a striking contrast to his past. As a young child, Hibiki was a free-spirited boy who genuinely loved to dance, imitating performers he saw on television and even entering a childrens dance competition. However, he suffered an embarrassing mishap during that competition, a specific incident where his loose shorts caused him humiliation, which completely destroyed his confidence. He vowed to never dance again, and this trauma led him to adopt a more passive and unambitious outlook on life as he grew older, preferring to avoid any situation where he might fail or be humiliated.

Hibikis role in the story begins when he discovers a small, lively robot named Breakin on his way home from school. Breakin is a dancer from another dimension who has lost his power and requires the help of a human to collect the scattered Dance Stones on Earth. Despite Hibikis initial lack of interest and disrespect for dance, which frustrates Breakin, he agrees to help. His primary motivation becomes the need to protect others, starting with his friend Kouta who is possessed by a Dance Stone. When he fuses with Breakin, he transforms into a dance hero named Flash Beat, gaining the power to fight and purify those corrupted by the stones. Over time, his motivation evolves from a sense of duty to a genuine rediscovery of the charm and joy of dancing.

Hibikis key relationships are central to his development. His partner is Breakin, the robot who lives with him and with whom he fuses to become Flash Beat, a process that gives him a more combative and warlike personality. He shares a close friendship with Kotone, his childhood friend who knows about his past and helps persuade him to regain his strength during moments of deep crisis. One of the most pivotal relationships is with a boy named Maito, whom Hibiki considers a friend but who is later revealed to be Correo, his main antagonist. The discovery of this betrayal in episode twenty is devastating, causing Hibiki to lose his will to fight, which results in Breakin being severely damaged and stripped of all their collected Dance Stones.

Hibiki undergoes significant development throughout the series. An early challenge occurs in episode six, where the pressure of his responsibilities leads to a mental breakdown, from which he recovers with encouragement. The true turning point comes after his betrayal by Maito, which sends him into a deep depression. He stops attending school and isolates himself, mourning the disabled Breakin. However, with the support of Kotone, he finds the strength to overcome his despair and his fighting spirit returns, reawakening Breakin. This event showcases his growing resilience. By the final episodes, he has matured enough to confront and purify Correo with a healing dance, showing compassion for his former friend. After the final battle, as a middle school student, he has fully reclaimed his passion, expressing a desire to become a great dancer who can make everyone happy.

In his transformed state as Flash Beat, Hibiki gains several notable abilities. His physique and flexibility are enhanced to be suitable for high-level dancing, his hair turns red with orange tips, and he gains a new outfit. He has the power to turn recovered Dance Stones into Skill Disks, which he can use to perform a variety of special attacks. His signature and most frequently used move is the Power Tornado Flash, a technique that creates a powerful tornado. Other special skills include the Dino Fang, which launches a fang-like attack, and the Thunder Whip, which attacks with an electric whip. The strength of Flash Beats attacks is directly linked to the strength of Hibikis own Dance Soul, with the combined power of Hibiki and a fully restored Breakin being capable of immense destructive force.
