Description
Adrienne, known in Japanese as Adoriinu, is a character from the dance-themed anime Brave Beats. She is a resident of the Dance World, a realm from which the series' dancing characters originate. In terms of appearance, she takes the form of a small, pink teddy bear who always wears a yellow hood designed to look like a rabbit's head, complete with long ears. This choice of attire is rooted in a personal insecurity, as she has a complex about her real ears being too small and thus prefers to conceal them. For much of the story, she presents herself as a rabbit, and the revelation that she is actually a bear is a key aspect of her identity.
Adrienne has a feminine and energetic personality, described as a typical modern girl with high tension. She has a great love for soft, fluffy things and anything she considers cute. A notable verbal tic is her frequent use of the phrase "cho ooo ru," an expression of excitement. Despite her often hyperactive and lively demeanor, she is honest and well-meaning, acting out of a genuine desire to help others. Her motivations are closely tied to her friend Breakin. After Breakin was banished to Earth, Adrienne grew worried about him and decided to follow him from the Dance World. Upon arriving on Earth, she lands at the home of a young girl named Kotone Amamiya. Concerned for Kotone's safety and well-being, Adrienne decides to become her partner.
In the story, Adrienne serves as a supporting character and partner to Kotone. Her arrival is a catalyst that helps Kotone transform into a dancing hero known as Wink Beat. As a resident of the Dance World, she has a deep understanding of the series' central conflict involving dance battles and the villains who misuse dance power. Her key relationships are with Breakin, her old friend whom she is trying to protect and look after, and with Kotone, with whom she forms a close bond as they live together and face challenges as a team. She also has a relationship with Hibiki Kazaguruma, the main protagonist, and his partner Breakin, often interacting with the whole group.
Adrienne has a few notable abilities and traits. Despite her small stature, she possesses an incredibly hard head, which is used to comic and practical effect. One of her cooperative techniques with Breakin involves him using her as a projectile in a giant swing, relying on her hard head as an attack. Another of her special skills is playing table tennis. She also enjoys a variety of earthly pastimes, such as playing with acorn dolls and sunbathing on the terrace wearing rainbow-colored sunglasses. Over the course of the series, Adrienne does not undergo a dramatic personality change, but her relationship with Kotone deepens as they work together, and she becomes more integrated into life on Earth while continuing to support her friends from the Dance World. Her name is derived from the famous piano piece Ballade Pour Adeline.
