Description
Flash Beat is the transformed hero form of Hibiki Kazaguruma, the main protagonist of the anime Brave Beats. Hibiki is a sixth-grade student with a cheerful and laid-back personality, often being level-headed and content with things as they are. However, this easygoing nature stems from a past insecurity. As a young child, Hibiki loved dancing and would enthusiastically imitate moves he saw on television, even entering a dance competition. After experiencing an embarrassing mishap during his performance, he lost all confidence in his dancing abilities and swore to never dance again, growing into a boy who was reluctant to try new things or step outside his comfort zone.
Hibiki's life changes when he finds a small, talking robot named Breakin. Breakin is a Dancerian from the Dance World who was banished and needs to collect scattered Dance Stones to return home. To accomplish this, Hibiki and Breakin perform a fusion, transforming into the dancing superhero Flash Beat. This transformation physically alters Hibiki, giving him a taller, more muscular build. As Flash Beat, his hair becomes a striking red with orange tips, his eye color shifts to a bright blue, and he dons a distinctive white jacket with one long sleeve and one short sleeve, revealing a blue shirt underneath. His limbs are equipped with gloves and armor reminiscent of Breakin's true form, and a headgear with Breakin's sentient eyes sits upon his head.
In this form, Hibiki's personality shifts significantly, becoming more combative and proactive under Breakin's influence. His voice also changes, sounding more mature and heroic. His motivation is initially reluctant, driven by a sense of duty and Breakin's persistence, but as he continues to fight and dance, he gradually rediscovers the joy and charm of dance he had lost as a child. He learns to conquer his fears and self-doubt, showing a brave and unyielding resolve to get stronger and protect others. His role in the story is the central hero, fighting against various villains like the bumbling Mink and Tank, and the more formidable antagonist, Choreo, to retrieve the Dance Stones and save both Earth and the Dance World from chaos.
Flash Beat's key relationships include his partnership with Breakin, who is both a companion and a power source, and his friendship with Kotone Amamiya, who becomes the hero Wink Beat. A significant relationship is with Maito Kamiya, a classmate he befriends. The story reaches an emotional peak when Hibiki discovers that Maito is actually his enemy, Choreo. This betrayal causes Hibiki to lose his will to fight, leading to a crushing defeat and Breakin being critically damaged. Through the support of his friends, particularly Kotone, Hibiki regains his strength and determination. In the final battle, he is able to reach the real Maito within Choreo, purifying him with a healing dance and reaffirming their friendship. After the final battle, Hibiki matures, entering middle school with his friends, and sets a new dream for himself: to become a great dancer who can make everyone happy.
As a fighter, Flash Beat's abilities are based on B-boying or breakdancing. His power is directly linked to the strength of his Dance Soul, or fighting spirit. His most iconic attack is the Power Tornado Flash, which creates a powerful tornado of energy. He can also convert recovered Dance Tones into Skill Disks. By inserting a disk into his headgear, he can activate special techniques, such as summoning a dinosaur-like fang attack with the Dino Fang or a purple electric whip with the Thunder Whip. In dire situations, Flash Beat can also combine his power with other heroes like Wink Beat to perform cooperative healing dances to purify overwhelmingly strong enemies.
