Description
Maysa, also known by his alias Commander Beef, is a character from the anime MegaMan NT Warrior. In his public life, he presents himself as a simple fisherman and fish salesman who claims to know nothing about NetNavis, PETs, or cyber battles. In reality, he is a highly skilled Net Agent and the operator of SharkMan.EXE. As Commander Beef, he leads a small team of fellow Net Agents that includes Sal, known as Black Rose, and Miyu, known as Mysteriyu. Together, they secretly work to combat cybercrime and assist the main protagonist, Lan Hikari, in his fights against the criminal organization World Three.
Maysa’s personality shifts dramatically between his two identities. As a civilian, he is eccentric, energetic, and deeply obsessed with fish and fish-related facts. He frequently tries to convince Lan and his friends to eat more seafood, stay active, and take their calcium. He speaks with a pronounced Southern accent in the English version of the series. As Commander Beef, he becomes a competent, no-nonsense leader with a deeper, more confident voice and a vast knowledge of the net and its history. He often supplies Lan with critical battle chips and strategic advice during confrontations. This dual persona is not a split personality but a deliberate cover; Maysa plays the role of an oblivious fishmonger to conceal his true work as a Net Agent, though elements of each persona sometimes bleed into the other.
His primary motivation is to protect the cyberworld and its users from threats. He views his work as a duty and takes his role as a mentor to Lan seriously. He is also motivated by a secret crush on Lan’s teacher, Ms. Mari, which leads to a lighthearted rivalry with the shopkeeper Higsby.
Maysa plays a recurring and supportive role in the first season of the anime. He participates in the N1 Grand Prix, teams up with Lan against enemy Navis, and helps in the final battle against the Life Virus. His true identity as Commander Beef is discovered by Lan partway through the season, though he manages to maintain his cover in front of others through a clever ruse. He returns briefly in the second season, MegaMan NT Warrior Axess, to assist in dealing with a Dark Chip dealer named Gauss Magnus, after which he largely fades from the series. A parallel world version of him appears in Rockman.EXE Beast.
