Description
Chaud Blaze, known in the original Japanese version as Enzan Ijuin, is a primary character in the anime MegaMan NT Warrior. He is a prodigy NetBattle operative and the serious, skilled rival of the main protagonist, Lan Hikari. Chaud is the son of the president of the massive BlazeQuest corporation and, despite his young age, holds the position of company vice-president, a role that forced him into adult responsibilities early in life. His mother passed away when he was young, and his father’s subsequent emotional distance and high expectations largely contributed to his initially cold and reserved demeanor.
In terms of personality, Chaud is defined by his intense seriousness, sharp intellect, and realistic, no-nonsense approach to both business and NetBattling. He is incredibly confident in his abilities, which can come across as arrogance, and he typically prefers solitude, believing that friends and emotional attachments are unnecessary distractions from his duties. He does not act impulsively and treats every situation as a tactical problem to be solved with efficiency and determination. Regardless, there are glimmers of a more chivalrous and dependable nature beneath his icy exterior; for instance, he has shown kindness to younger characters in distress and expresses great contempt for dishonorable tactics like attacking an opponent from behind.
Chaud’s primary motivation is to fulfill his duties as a top-tier NetBattler and the heir to his father’s company. He is driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to perpetuate order, often working as an Official NetBattler or NetSaver (Net Savior) to investigate and eliminate net-based crimes and threats. Unlike Lan, who battles with heart and intuition, Chaud believes in cold, calculated strategy. His role in the story begins as a foil to Lan, whom he initially dismisses as an amateur nuisance. As the series progresses, he becomes a crucial ally and partner, though the competitive edge of their rivalry always remains present.
The most significant relationship in Chaud’s life is with his NetNavi, ProtoMan.EXE. Their bond is markedly different from the friendly partnership between Lan and MegaMan; it is highly professional and built on mutual respect for each other’s strength, though Chaud initially views ProtoMan more as a powerful tool and the two share a similar, serious personality. Over time, their unseen bond deepens to the point where they are able to perform Cross Fusion, a process that physically merges the operator and Navi into a single, powerful being. He also shares a complex relationship with Lan Hikari. While he publicly dismisses Lan’s emotional battling style, he eventually comes to respect Lan as a true rival and trusted friend after they survive numerous ordeals together, such as the N1 Grand Prix, which Chaud ultimately won.
Chaud undergoes significant development throughout the series. He begins as a cold, isolated genius who looks down on others but gradually opens up, smiling more often and learning to rely on his peers. His most notable arc occurs in MegaMan NT Warrior Axess, when he is forced to give ProtoMan a Dark Chip to defeat the powerful Darkloid ShadeMan. This act transforms ProtoMan into a violent Darkloid known as Dark ProtoMan, plunging Chaud into a deep depression as he feels completely responsible for his friend’s suffering. This event forces him to confront his emotions more directly, and he dedicates himself to rectifying his mistake and saving his Navi, a journey that further solidifies his friendship with Lan. In later series like Stream, he is chosen by the being Duo to help save the world, marking him as one of the elite fighters in the universe.
As a NetBattler, Chaud possesses several notable abilities. He is a tactical genius and an incredibly fast operator, capable of winning battles in mere seconds, as demonstrated during the N1 Grand Prix. His primary ability is Cross Fusion, which allows him to physically merge with ProtoMan to become C.F. ProtoMan (or C.F. Blues), granting him superhuman combat abilities in the real world. He also operates a state-of-the-art PET and is highly knowledgeable in the science of NetNavis and Dark Chips, often assisting scientists in their research.
