Description
In the MegaMan NT Warrior anime, CutMan is a Solo NetNavi, meaning he operates independently without a human partner. He serves as a minor antagonist during the Grave story arc, a criminal organization that forms a significant threat in the series. His character is visually distinct, featuring a primarily red body with a cream-colored midsection, a pair of scissor blades mounted on his head, and a yellow letter C emblem on the front of his torso.
CutMan's personality is not explored in great depth, but his actions demonstrate a commitment to the goals of Grave. He is shown to be ruthless and loyal to the organization's cause, willing to eliminate those who betray it. This is most clearly illustrated when he strikes down the NetNavi QuickMan from behind after QuickMan and his operator revealed they had only been pretending to be loyal to Grave, intending instead to scare people into protecting nature. This act shows that CutMan has little tolerance for deception or failure within the ranks.
His primary motivation is tied to his role in Grave. He is tasked with carrying out the organization's destructive plans, such as attempting to blow up a dam at Okuden Valley. He appears to follow orders without question, acting as an instrument of the group's will. After his initial defeat, his legacy is carried on by his family, known as the CutMan Brothers. This group of five similar NetNavis, led by an elder CutMan, seeks to avenge the original CutMan, believing he was unfairly deleted by MegaMan.
Within the story, CutMan's role is that of an enforcer. He first appears ominously at the end of an episode, with only his hand visible, warning MegaMan about the power of Grave. His major confrontation occurs in a subsequent episode, where he engages with both QuickMan and MegaMan. His attempt to destroy the dam is the central conflict of that encounter, positioning him as a direct threat that MegaMan must stop. His defeat is swift, as MegaMan is able to fight and log him out, preventing the disaster.
Key relationships for CutMan are primarily with his enemies and his family. He is an adversary to MegaMan, whom he fights directly, and to QuickMan, whom he ambushes. His most significant connection, however, seems to be with his brothers. After his deletion, the narrative focus shifts to them, with five distinct CutMan Brothers (named Vinny, Sammy, Jerry, Joey, and Nicky) appearing in later episodes to seek revenge for their fallen brother, whom they believe was defeated unfairly. This introduces a familial dimension to his character that extends beyond his original role as a villain.
CutMan does not undergo significant development as an individual character within the anime, as his screen time is limited before his deletion. However, his narrative function develops posthumously through the CutMan Brothers. These brothers are portrayed as misguided, believing they are fighting for justice against a supposedly evil MegaMan. Their repeated, failed attempts at revenge add a layer of persistence to CutMan's legacy, showing how his defeat fuels further conflict.
In terms of notable abilities, CutMan's primary weapon is the Rolling Cutter. This attack involves summoning or throwing a pair of scissor-like blades that can chase opponents across the battlefield. He can also use the scissors mounted on his head for a close-range Scissor Chop attack. These abilities make him a dangerous close-to-mid-range combatant, fitting his role as an enforcer for Grave.
