TV-Series
Description
Oshizu Murasame, whose formal name is Shizu Murasame, is a supporting character in the To Love Ru series and its sequel To Love Ru Darkness. She is the ghost of a girl who died around four hundred years before the events of the story and whose spirit remained bound to the abandoned old school building at Sainan High. Although her registered name is Murasame Shizu, she prefers to be called Oshizu and introduces herself that way, so most characters address her as Oshizu or Oshizu-chan.

Her personality is cheerful, bright, playful, and earnest. She is sincere and kind by nature and deeply curious about the modern world after spending centuries isolated from it. She also has a slightly clumsy side, and because her habits, knowledge, and values were formed in an earlier era, she occasionally shows gaps in her understanding of contemporary life. She has a pronounced fear of dogs, which stems from the time she lived in, when stray dogs could be a real danger to people.

After so many years alone, Oshizu longs for human warmth and connection. Once she meets Rito Yuki and his friends, she begins to explore the world beyond the old school building for the first time. While possessing other people, she can sense their true feelings, and this ability leads her to discover Haruna Sairenji's hidden romantic feelings for Rito. She becomes a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of Haruna's love, encouraging her to confess, although her well-meaning meddling sometimes creates chaotic results, such as when Rito accidentally confesses to the wrong girls because of her interference.

In the story, Oshizu initially appears to be connected to a ghost disturbance at the old school building, but she is actually unrelated to it. She later becomes a regular presence among the main characters. Her circumstances change significantly when Ryouko Mikado creates a prosthetic body for her with biological qualities, allowing Oshizu to inhabit a physical form that looks and feels like that of a living person. From that point, she lives in the modern world and works as a nurse and assistant at Mikado's clinic, with Mikado maintaining her new body. The arrangement has a notable drawback: during moments of intense excitement, her spirit can briefly disconnect and leave the prosthetic body behind. In a later part of To Love Ru Darkness, her spirit is placed in serious danger when she helps destroy a black hole, an act that nearly causes her to disappear completely.

Her key relationships reflect her growing ties to the living world. She becomes especially close to Haruna, who was among the first people she had meaningful contact with in centuries, and the two develop a warm friendship. She is also very loyal to Ryouko Mikado, respecting her intellect and kindness and serving as both her friend and her aide; over time, their relationship takes on an almost mother-daughter quality. Her bond with Rito and the wider group helps her move from a lonely existence to an active participant in their everyday lives, giving her a sense of belonging and purpose.

Oshizu's notable abilities come from her nature as a powerful spirit. She can possess other people and control their movements, and while doing so she can enter their subconscious, view their memories, and understand their emotions, especially their feelings toward others; this ability is compared to the skill known as Psycho-Dive used by another character in the series, and her mental abilities are noted to be superior to that character's. She also possesses psychokinetic power, allowing her to lift very heavy objects with effort, and she can leave her body at will and perform ghostly pranks. When frightened, she emits blasts of mental stress that can blow apart objects and the surrounding area, a reaction that frequently tears away clothing and lands Rito in awkward situations. She is also capable of manipulating others through sheer willpower.

In the first anime adaptation, Oshizu's role was limited and she did not receive a physical body, but in the To Love Ru Darkness anime and the later OVA releases her storyline follows the manga, including her return to the living in a prosthetic body.
