Description
Aigami, whose real name is Diva, is the primary antagonist of the 2016 film. He is a mysterious youth who transfers into Yugi Muto's class at Domino High School under the false name Aigami, but this identity is merely an illusion implanted in the memories of those around him. His true history is tragic; he and his sister Sera were orphans living under the care of an abusive slave master who forced them to beg on the streets. Their lives changed forever when the mystic Shadi Shin freed them, using the power of the Quantum Cube to make their oppressor disappear.

Following their rescue, Diva, Sera, and another orphan named Mani became disciples of Shadi, who took on a mentor-like role in their lives. Shadi taught them about the Millennium Items and revealed a prophecy: when the seven Items are gathered, a door to a better world would open. He considered Diva to be of the same level as the person destined to solve the Millennium Puzzle. However, their peaceful existence was shattered when Ryo Bakura's father came to acquire the Millennium Ring. The encounter led to Ryo Bakura touching the Ring, awakening the dark spirit within, which then fatally attacked Shadi. With his dying breath, Shadi entrusted the Quantum Cube to Diva.

Driven by the loss of his master, Diva becomes determined to prevent the resurrection of the Pharaoh Atem, which he believes would seal the door to the ideal world Shadi spoke of. His primary motivation stems from a pure and absolute belief in Shadi's teachings, a devotion that the series' creator, Kazuki Takahashi, identified as the core of his terrifying nature. Diva is not inherently evil but is so convinced of the corruption and meaninglessness of the existing world that he believes erasing it to create a new, perfect one is justified. He is a calm and passive individual who generally shows little emotion and observes the world with a cold, detached gaze. Despite this, he genuinely cares for his sister Sera and his fellow orphans, viewing them as his family.

In the story, Diva uses his powers to spy on Yugi and his friends, intending to stop the Millennium Puzzle from being reassembled. He clashes directly with Seto Kaiba during the excavation of the Puzzle and later confronts both Kaiba and Yugi in a tag-team Shadow Game. Diva’s role is to serve as the catalyst for the film's central conflict, forcing Yugi and Kaiba to unite against a common enemy while also driving the plot toward the eventual return of Atem.

Key relationships define his actions. His bond with his sister Sera is central, and he entrusts her with a piece of the stolen Millennium Puzzle for safekeeping. Mani is a close friend who follows Diva to keep an eye on him, though Mani ultimately sacrifices himself after being corrupted by the Millennium Ring. Diva also seeks revenge against Ryo Bakura, holding him responsible for Shadi's death, though he recognizes that the true culprit was the malevolent spirit within the Ring.

Throughout the film, Diva undergoes significant development, culminating in his tragic corruption. After Mani’s death, Diva is engulfed by the dark energy of the Millennium Ring, transforming into a monstrous, demonic version of himself often called Corrupted Diva or Dark Diva. In this state, the Ring fuses with his chest, his appearance becomes grotesque, and his personality warps drastically. He becomes sadistic, obsessed with creating a world of eternal darkness, and even turns against Sera, declaring that he no longer acknowledges Shadi as his master. This transformation represents the complete perversion of his original goal. He is ultimately defeated in a Duel by the returned spirit of Atem, which purges the darkness from him. In the film's final moments, Diva is freed from the Ring's control and is seen back in Egypt with Sera, waving goodbye to the spirit of Mani.

Diva possesses several notable abilities, most derived from the Quantum Cube given to him by Shadi. This artifact allows him to manipulate dimensions, teleport himself and others, and send people to a void where their bodies and memories slowly disintegrate. He can also alter the memories of ordinary people on a large scale, which is how he established his false identity as a transfer student. The Cube can transform into a Duel Disk for combat. In Duel Monsters, he uses a Cubic Deck, a strategy focused on summoning powerful monsters like Crimson Nova the Dark Cubic Lord and fusing them into the even more formidable Crimson Nova Trinity the Dark Cubic Lord.
