Description
Kō is the younger brother of Takumi and the main protagonist of the comedy anime series Strange Plus. He first appears when he travels to a rundown slum neighborhood in search of his elder brother, who had run away from home. Upon locating Takumi, Kō discovers that he has become the head of a private detective agency called the Mikuni Detective Agency. Because Takumi refuses to return home, Kō decides to stay and begins working at the agency as a general helper, handling errands and odd jobs.
Kō has a straightforward and earnest personality, often serving as the straight man or tsukkomi to the eccentric and absurd behaviors of his brother and the other characters around him. He is level-headed, responsible, and frequently expresses exasperation at the bizarre situations he is pulled into. His primary motivation is initially to bring Takumi back home, but as the series progresses, he becomes more absorbed into the daily life of the agency and its strange cases.
In the story, Kō is the audience surrogate and the unifying element that ties the different comedic episodes together. His role is to react to the chaos and to provide a relatively normal perspective against the peculiar antics of the agency's staff and clients. The title Strange Plus itself refers to him as the "plus" added to the already "strange" group of detectives.
