Description
DOGOO is the acronym for the Defense Organization aGainst Outer Objects, a supranational organization that serves as the primary line of defense against a hostile alien species in the anime Nobunagun. The organization is founded on a unique and centuries-old project involving the genetic legacy of history's most influential figures.

The origins of DOGOO lie with an alien entity of the same name, Dogoo, whose own world was destroyed by the alien threat known as the Evolutionary Invasion Objects. Arriving on Earth, this alien, also called Dogoo, dedicated itself to preventing a similar catastrophe. Its method involved collecting the souls or genetic essence of exceptional individuals from history, transforming them into what are known as E-Genes. These E-Genes were then implanted into bloodlines across the world, passed down through generations until the modern day. The individuals in whom these genes awaken become E-Gene Holders, capable of summoning powerful AU weapons based on the spirit of the historical figure they are connected to.

The human leader and commander of DOGOO is a woman named Iyo. Her connection to the organization is deeply personal and ancient. Iyo lived around 248 BC in early Japan, where her village was ravaged by tribal warfare. It was then that the alien Dogoo selected her to become its underling. To serve this role across the millennia, Iyo has spent most of her life in a state of suspended animation within a specialized plasma incubator. She would be awakened roughly every hundred years to oversee the crucial task of selecting suitable historical figures for the E-Gene project, gathering their genetic material. Despite her long service, her relationship with the alien Dogoo has not been without conflict. She has openly questioned its choices, most notably when it selected the powerful and warlike figure Oda Nobunaga. Her opposition was so strong that she fled DOGOO with another immortal associate, Saint-Germain, to live a normal life for a time, only returning after the town they lived in was destroyed in a war.

Within the narrative, DOGOO functions as a powerful, globe-spanning military force dedicated to eradicating the Evolutionary Invasion Objects. It operates from a fleet of three massive floating fortresses that circle the Pacific Ocean, allowing for rapid deployment to any crisis zone. The organization is structured into multiple platoons of E-Gene Holders, with the main focus of the story being on the Second Platoon. These platoons are the action-oriented arm of DOGOO, engaging in direct combat. Beyond them, the organization includes specialized teams, such as a Special Ops Team whose members possess analytical and support-based AU abilities rather than purely offensive weapons. The Second Platoon, for instance, is composed of the reincarnations of figures like Jack the Ripper, Isaac Newton, and Mahatma Gandhi, each using their powers in unique ways, from gravity manipulation to creating defensive force fields. The protagonist, Sio Ogura, is recruited into this platoon after awakening as the E-Gene Holder of Oda Nobunaga.

The organization's motivation is the survival of humanity from the relentless and evolving EIs. Its methods, however, are driven by the ancient alien mission of its founder. The entire E-Gene project is a long-term strategy of developing super-powered soldiers. DOGOO is depicted as a stoic and sometimes cold entity, with a leadership that has lived for centuries and makes decisions on a grand, often ruthless, strategic scale to ensure the success of its mission. The development of characters like Sio within DOGOO involves learning to master their inherited powers, forming bonds with their fellow soldiers, and confronting the immense responsibility of being a weapon against an existential threat to the planet.
