Description
Daichi Sakaki is a third-year student at Seiso Academy and serves as the Vice-President of the Orchestra Club, where he plays the viola. He stands out from the other main members of the club because he is not a music major; instead, he comes from the General Education department. This unique position means he wears a different school uniform from the rest of the ensemble, a blackish-gray shirt rather than the white one worn by music students.

Daichi has a tall and attractive appearance, standing at 184 centimeters, with brown hair and yellow eyes. Consistent with his charming looks, his personality is outgoing and flirtatious, which has made him very popular with his female classmates. He is quick to offer sweet words and is known for his playful, smooth-talking nature. This is most evident in his interactions with the protagonist, Kanade Kohinata, whom he affectionately and immediately nicknames Hina-chan.

Despite this lighthearted and seemingly casual exterior, Daichi is a deeply mature, cool-headed, and reliable individual. He is one of the most patient members of the orchestra, often displaying a level-headedness that makes him a trustworthy leader and a valuable friend. He demonstrates his maturity and fairness early on when the club is initially hostile toward new members Kanade and Kyoya Kisaragi. Rather than joining the resistance, Daichi proposes a practical test of their skills, showing his willingness to give others a chance and his commitment to the club's success over personal biases.

This accepting nature is partly rooted in his own background as a musician. Daichi started playing the viola later than his peers, which has given him a sense of insecurity; he sometimes worries that his relatively late start might mean he is holding the more experienced members back. However, his natural talent and sensitivity to music are remarkable. His aptitude and musical feeling are well above average, allowing him to join the ensemble successfully and even rise to the position of Vice-President despite his shorter history with the instrument.

His motivations are driven by a powerful work ethic and a desire to overcome his perceived shortcomings. Daichi is a dedicated hard worker who consistently strives to improve, driven by a feeling that he must work the hardest of everyone to catch up. This dedication is even more impressive because he is also focused on his future career. He aspires to become a surgeon and is preparing for medical school entrance exams, which requires him to diligently balance his intense musical practice with his demanding academic studies. He dreams of winning a national championship in the ensemble competition, a goal he shares and pursues with passion.

His primary instrument is the viola, and his skill is a point of both pride and anxiety. He shows a great ability to adapt and harmonize within a group, an essential skill for an ensemble member. Outside of music, Daichi has a few notable hobbies and skills. His hobby is playing the acoustic guitar, and he has a practical specialty in wound care, being particularly adept at applying bandages. This skill aligns with his ambition to become a surgeon. He lives with his father and his pet dog, a Mameshiba named Momo.

Throughout the story, Daichi acts as a supportive and stabilizing force within the orchestra. He is often the first to welcome new members and works to maintain a positive atmosphere in the group. His key relationships are primarily with his fellow club members. He forms a particular bond with the protagonist, Kanade, whom he supports during an audition by volunteering to play with her when she had no partner. He also shares a notable rivalry with Hōsei Toki, the vice-president of the orchestra club at a rival school, Jinnan Academy. While Daichi prefers to avoid conflict, Toki enjoys teasing him, creating a competitive dynamic between the two vice-presidents.

Daichi Sakaki does not undergo a dramatic personality shift so much as he reveals deeper layers of his character. His initial portrayal as a charming flirt gives way to a fuller understanding of his maturity, his quiet insecurities, and his immense dedication. His development is seen in his growing confidence as a musician and his continued success in balancing his responsibilities to the orchestra with his personal academic ambitions, all while maintaining his cheerful and accepting demeanor.
