TV-Series
Description
Clemont, known as Citron in the original Japanese version, is the Gym Leader of Lumiose City in the Kalos region, specializing in Electric-type Pokémon. He is a young boy with pale skin and medium-length, bright yellow hair that has an electrified appearance, complete with a distinctive lightning bolt-shaped tuft on top of his head. Clemont wears large round glasses and a blue jumpsuit with a yellow collar. His most notable accessory is a backpack-like cybernetic device of his own invention, which includes two robotic extensions; one resembles the sun and the other the moon, with the moon-like contraption also functioning as a mechanical arm he can use to grip objects.

Clemont is characterized by his passion for science and invention, often introducing his creations with a catchphrase about the future being thanks to science. Despite his genius-level intellect, there is a recurring joke that his inventions tend to explode instantly or work only briefly before short-circuiting and breaking down. He is dedicated to logic and becomes distressed when confronted with things that defy rational explanation. Clemont is also a caring and protective older brother to his younger sister, Bonnie, whose Japanese name is Eureka. He frequently worries about her safety, scolds her when she wanders off, and puts her wellbeing above his own, even risking his life to protect her on occasion.

Bonnie is Clemont's inseparable younger sister. She is below the age of ten and not old enough to officially become a Pokémon Trainer, so she instead acts as an active member of the traveling group, often carrying the Electric-type Pokémon Dedenne in her satchel. Despite her youth, Bonnie shows a great deal of initiative and confidence. One of her most persistent hobbies is trying to find a suitable wife for her brother, frequently approaching older women they meet on their journey and asking them to marry Clemont. These repeated matchmaking attempts invariably embarrass Clemont, who physically pulls her away from the situation using his Aipom Arm invention. Bonnie has a deep bond of trust with her brother, relying on him in moments of stress while also playfully challenging his overprotectiveness, understanding that it comes from a place of love.

The sibling relationship between Clemont and Bonnie is a cornerstone of their characters. Clemont's responsibility for Bonnie is immense, to the point where he becomes upset and angry when she gets into trouble. He looks after her physical needs, such as making sure she eats her vegetables even when she dislikes them. Bonnie, in turn, is very understanding of her brother. In one episode, she becomes distressed not because Clemont has found a potential partner, but because she fears he might leave her behind to run the Gym while he marries and works for a robotics company. When a Team Rocket attack causes Bonnie to fall from a cliff, Clemont immediately uses his Aipom Arm to save her, even as the device begins to malfunction. After pulling her to safety, he reassures her that her safety is what matters most, leading to a heartfelt embrace between the siblings. Their bond is further highlighted in episodes where they argue and then reconcile, learning from other sibling pairs they encounter on their journey.

In the story, Clemont initially hides the fact that he is a Gym Leader from Ash. He had previously created a robot, known as Clembot, to run the Gym in his absence so he could focus on his inventions. However, the robot malfunctioned and took over the Gym, ejecting Clemont. With Ash's help, Clemont eventually regained control of his Gym. His motivations for traveling with Ash are partly to improve as a Trainer and to eventually give Ash a proper Gym battle. He spends time reflecting on his progress and even inputs data on Ash's battle style into Clembot to create a worthy challenge. Their Gym battle is a significant event, and although Clemont loses and awards Ash the Voltage Badge, he continues traveling with the group afterward. At the conclusion of the Kalos journey, Clemont and Bonnie remain in their home region, with Clemont returning to his duties as Gym Leader.

Bonnie's role in the story is that of a supportive and energetic companion. She shares a close, sisterly relationship with Serena, participating in activities like baking Poké Puffs and seeking fashion advice. She also shows enthusiastic curiosity about new Pokémon she encounters and often expresses her excitement upon meeting them, even though she cannot catch them herself. In the film Pokémon: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, Bonnie's behavior continues in a similar vein; she interacts with the mythical Pokémon Magearna and, at one point, proposes marriage on behalf of Clemont to another character's assistant. Her development throughout the series is subtle but present, as she learns to appreciate her brother for who he is, flaws and all. At one point, a potential partner for Clemont decides she is not ready to settle down, and Bonnie admits that Clemont is fine just the way he is.

Regarding notable abilities, Clemont is a skilled inventor and a competent battler who uses Electric-type Pokémon such as Bunnelby, Luxray, and Chespin. His inventions, while prone to failure, sometimes prove crucial in solving problems and helping his friends. Bonnie's primary ability is her care for Dedenne, which she keeps in her bag. She also displays a surprising amount of courage and resourcefulness for her age, often arbitrating battles or helping to calm situations.
