Description
Belmondo is a character who appears in the Pokémon XY anime as a former professor from the robotics division of Lumiose University. A highly ambitious inventor, his lifelong dream was to construct the ultimate robot, a goal that ultimately consumed him and led him down a criminal path. His obsession began when he observed Clemont's invention, Clembot, and recognized its potential as the foundation for his own superior creation.
Belmondo's primary motivation is a deep-seated desire for recognition and to prove his intellectual superiority, particularly over Clemont, the Lumiose City Gym Leader and fellow inventor. Convinced that he could perfect Clemont's work, he hacked into the Lumiose Gym's computer database and stole the original blueprints. Using these stolen plans, he built a second robot he called Dark Clembot, which he programmed with a ruthless and amoral directive: winning is the only thing that matters in Pokémon battles. His elaborate scheme involved using this robot to commit various crimes across Lumiose City, after which he planned to have Dark Clembot "solve" the cases. This would frame the original Clembot as the culprit while Belmondo received acclaim for creating a more effective, "heroic" robot.
