Description
Gino Weinberg is a character from the second season of the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. He is a young man of 17 years, born on November 27, and stands 185 cm tall with blond hair often styled into three small braids and blue eyes. He hails from a prestigious Britannian noble family, the Weinbergs, and as the fourth son, he was not initially the focus of his family's attention. Despite his noble lineage, Gino largely earned his position through personal merit, rising to become the Knight of Three, the third-highest rank in the Empire's elite Knight of the Round.

Gino is characterized by his energetic, optimistic, and outgoing personality, which stands in stark contrast to the more reserved demeanors of his close friends, Suzaku Kururugi and Anya Alstreim. He is generally cheerful, friendly, and informal, often greeting Suzaku with a one-armed hug despite Suzaku's more restrained nature. Having been raised in a sheltered aristocratic environment, he can sometimes display a lack of understanding of commoner life, leading to naive or ill-considered actions, but he is always well-intentioned. His motivations are largely driven by a strong personal sense of justice and loyalty to his friends, rather than blind allegiance to the Britannian throne. He seeks to do what he believes is right, a trait that eventually puts him at odds with his own empire and former comrades.

In the story, Gino is initially an antagonist to the Black Knights but his role becomes more complex as he questions the actions of the Britannian leadership. He first arrives in Area 11 (Japan) alongside Suzaku and Anya. His enthusiasm for combat and his skill as a pilot are immediately evident, such as when he single-handedly attacks the government office's defenses. He participates in key missions, including the defense of Governor Nunnally, diplomatic efforts in the Chinese Federation, and the final battles for control of the world. His time at the Ashford Academy, where he enrolls to experience normal life, serves to humanize him and connect him with the series' main cast.

Gino's key relationships significantly shape his journey. His friendship with Suzaku Kururugi is central; he is one of the few people who genuinely tries to connect with the often-isolated Suzaku, though their bond is severely tested by later events. He shares a calm and amicable working relationship with his fellow Round, Anya Alstreim, with whom he is frequently partnered. He also forms a notable connection with Kallen Kozuki, one of the Black Knights' top pilots. He respects her strength, flirts with her, and protects her from mistreatment while she is a prisoner, showing his personal code of honor and his ability to see past enemy lines.

Throughout the series, Gino undergoes significant development. He begins as a confident, somewhat offhand warrior who mainly seeks thrilling fights, but he evolves into a principled individual who will defy his own nation. His turning point comes when he objects to Prince Schneizel's plan for a coup d'état, for which he is placed under house arrest. He is further alienated by the use of the FLEIJA weapon and ultimately rejects Lelouch vi Britannia's tyrannical rule. This leads Gino to join the Black Knights, his former enemies, to fight against the new Britannian Emperor. This decision puts him in direct, and final, conflict with his friend Suzaku.

As a member of the Knight of the Round, Gino is an exceptionally skilled Knightmare Frame pilot. His primary ability lies in his mastery of his custom, transformable Knightmare, the Tristan. The Tristan is notable for its ability to shift between a standard humanoid Knightmare Mode (K-Mode) and a high-speed Fighter Mode (F-Mode), which allows for versatile and unpredictable combat tactics. He later pilots an upgraded version, the Tristan Divider, during the final battle against Lelouch's forces.
