Description
Buddy Fury is a midfielder for the national team Inazuma Japan, which later becomes the Earth Eleven, wearing the number 6 jersey. His original Japanese name is Kusaka Ryuuji. Physically, he is one of the tallest and most muscular members of the team. He has long, light-brown curly hair that he typically holds in place with a brown headband, and his eyes are most often seen closed.

His personality is defined by a stark duality. In normal circumstances, Buddy Fury is a calm, relaxed individual with a friendly and accommodating smile on his face. He is known to have the kind and peaceful expression of a Buddha. However, this placid exterior masks an explosive temper. When he is teased, provoked, or treated rudely, he undergoes a violent transformation and switches into a state of uncontrollable rage. This aggressive side is so pronounced that he is reputed to be a school bully who controls five different school gangs. The only time he opens his eyes is when he has entered this furious state.

The root cause of his volatile temperament is explored through a past incident from his childhood. As a young boy, he attempted to protect a girl named Judie from bullies, but he was severely beaten while she fled, leaving him with deep-seated feelings of anger and helplessness. It is mentioned by a teammate, Manabe Jinichirou, that he was actually a kind and timid child before this event changed him.

This inner fury manifests as a powerful ability known as his Berserker Mode. The first time he uses this mode, he is completely out of control, his eyes turning blank and white, and his personality becoming corrupt and negative. In this state, he discards his headband, and his hair stands wildly on end while his eyes open to reveal a bright red, aggressive expression. His anger is so potent that it can physically change his appearance, increasing his power significantly. Throughout the story, with encouragement from his teammates and Judie, Buddy Fury learns to harness his Berserker Mode without losing his sanity, turning it from a liability into a reliable source of strength on the soccer field.

Buddy Fury's role in the story begins when he is surprisingly selected to join the new Inazuma Japan team. His motivations are initially unclear, as he appears unmotivated and out of form, but as the team faces powerful opponents, he confronts his past and seeks to control his anger. His key relationships are primarily with his teammates. He is shown to be particularly close to and protective of Trina Verdure (Morimura Konoha), for whom he develops strong romantic feelings. He goes to great lengths to speak with her privately, and during an important match, he publicly confesses his love for her, asking her to be his girlfriend, though she kindly replies that she is not yet ready.

Throughout the series, Buddy Fury demonstrates significant character development, evolving from a troubled individual who is a slave to his rage into a composed player who can weaponize that fury at will for the good of his team. His notable abilities and hissatsu techniques are closely tied to his anger. While in his Berserker form, his moves include Medusenblick (Gorgon's Gaze), Brutalo-Kopfball (Furious Catapult), Feuersense, and Power Dribble. He also utilizes other techniques such as Dribbel-Finte and a move called Zorn-Modus.
