Description
Frank Foreman is a defender for the national team Shinsei Inazuma Japan, which later becomes Earth Eleven, in the Galaxy season, wearing the number 5 shirt. Before joining the team, he was a student at Mannouzaka Junior High School, where he was a world-class boxer. His boxing career was cut short due to a specific injury. While trying to help a person being attacked by a robber, his right hand was struck by an iron bar, causing an injury that forced him to give up the sport. This traumatic event left him sensitive about his past, and he becomes immediately angered if the subject of boxing is brought up. His initial motivation for trying out for Inazuma Japan was not a love for soccer, but rather a practical need to earn money. His family works in the fishing industry, and their boat was broken, requiring funds for repairs.
Frank has a tough and imposing personality that matches his background as a fighter, but at his core, he is a loyal and earnest individual. He is often quiet and calm, though he possesses a passionate and aggressive side. His physical prowess gives him a strong foundation as an athlete, but he initially carries emotional and psychological weaknesses from his boxing trauma. He notably has a fear of fast-moving objects, as his instinct trained him to see anything coming at high speed as a boxing punch, causing him to dodge the ball rather than stop it during early practices.
Within the story, Frank is one of the new members of Inazuma Japan who struggles to find his place. He is among the first to consider leaving the team when a withdrawal test is administered, as he initially feels soccer is not for him. During this test, as he fails shot after shot, he is haunted by memories of the booing crowds from his boxing days, a key moment that reveals the depth of his psychological scars. However, remembering the encouragement of his former boxing coach, nicknamed Uncle Tetsu, and the words of his new teammate Tenma Matsukaze, he regains his resolve. He scores a beautiful goal on his final attempt, marking a turning point where he becomes truly interested in soccer and grows closer to his teammates. This event leads to him being the first member of the team to awaken to his soccer soul. This awakening occurs outside of a match, a unique occurrence that highlights his personal breakthrough.
Frank forms significant relationships with several key players. He is the first to put his faith in the tricky player Matatagi, showing his capacity for loyalty and trust even when others are skeptical. He also develops a strong bond with Kyousuke Tsurugi, who becomes a source of spiritual support. While practicing alone at night, Frank confides in Tsurugi that he finds soccer fun because he does not have to use his hands, implying he is still not fully healed from his trauma. Tsurugi offers him important advice, which later becomes the strength that allows Frank to finally overcome his past. Frank also acts as a caring senior to Shinsuke Nishizono, being the first to welcome him and notably covering for him on the field when he is injured. He is also known to be prone to motion sickness, reacting poorly to the roller-coaster-like vehicles used on their space journey.
Throughout the series, Frank develops from a reluctant player motivated by money into a passionate athlete who wants to grow stronger and awaken his soul as quickly as possible. He overcomes his trauma by remembering the advice he received and confronts his fears head-on. This allows him to fully utilize his abilities as a defender. His playing style is heavily influenced by his boxing past. His signature defensive technique is Foot Work Draw, a block where he uses a guard and light footwork to intercept the ball. He also has a shooting technique called Dead Straight, where he kicks the ball with the recoil of throwing a punch, creating a rocket in the shape of a boxing glove and embodying the power of a boxing counter. His most notable ability is his soul, which takes the form of a water buffalo. True to his aggressive and powerful nature, the soul rams into opponents head-on to launch them into the air and steal the ball. His image color is red, and his element aligns with fire in the games.
