Description
In the anime special InuYasha: Kuroi Tessaiga, the protagonist Inuyasha is a half-demon, born of a human mother named Izayoi and a powerful dog demon father often referred to as the Inu no Taisho. This mixed heritage places him in a unique position, rejected by both human society and the demon world, forcing him to navigate a path defined by his dual nature. He inherits his father’s famous sword, the Tessaiga, a legendary fang blade capable of slaying one hundred demons in a single strike, though its true power is only accessible to one who protects humans.

Inuyasha’s personality is a volatile mix of pride, vulnerability, and fierce loyalty. He is often quick to anger and prone to outbursts, masking a deep-seated insecurity about his identity as a half-breed. Despite his rough exterior and tendency to act impulsively, he possesses a strong moral core and an unwavering determination to protect those he considers his companions. His motivations have evolved significantly over time. While he once sought the all-powerful Shikon Jewel to transform himself into a complete demon and overcome the prejudice he faced, his journey alongside his friends shifts his focus toward a more personal goal: confronting and defeating the cunning and malevolent half-demon Naraku, who is responsible for a tragic betrayal that haunted Inuyasha for fifty years.

Within the specific narrative of Kuroi Tessaiga, Inuyasha’s role is defined by a bitter conflict with his older half-brother, Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru, a full-blooded dog demon, has always harbored resentment that their father bequeathed the powerful Tessaiga to his "unworthy" half-breed brother while leaving him with the Tenseiga, a sword of healing. This resentment is manipulated by Naraku, who tempts Sesshomaru with a scheme to steal Tessaiga’s power, setting the brothers against each other in a crucial battle that tests Inuyasha’s strength and worthiness to wield his father’s legacy.

Key relationships are central to Inuyasha’s story. His bond with Kagome Higurashi, a girl from the future who is the reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo, is transformative. Although their relationship begins with hostility, it gradually deepens into one of profound trust and love as she accepts him for who he is. His rivalry with Sesshomaru is another defining aspect; it evolves from pure animosity and disdain into a grudging respect forged through repeated conflict and an understanding of their father’s true intentions. He is also supported by a loyal group of friends, including the monk Miroku, the demon slayer Sango, and the young fox demon Shippo, who teach him the value of teamwork and mutual reliance.

Inuyasha’s character development is closely tied to his growing mastery of the Tessaiga. Initially reliant on the raw power inherited from his father, he learns that the sword requires its wielder to grow stronger and more compassionate. When the Tessaiga is broken and reforged using his own fang, it becomes heavier and harder to wield, forcing him to rely on his personal strength and willpower rather than his father’s. This struggle culminates in the mastery of new techniques, moving beyond the Wind Scar to unlock more powerful abilities like the Backlash Wave, which reflects an opponent’s own demonic energy back at them, and the Adamant Barrage.

His notable abilities are a direct result of his half-demon physiology and his swordsmanship. He possesses superhuman strength, speed, and a powerful regenerative healing factor that allows him to recover from otherwise fatal wounds. His demonic blood grants him sharp claws capable of devastating attacks, but it is also a double-edged sword; when pushed to near-death or separated from the Tessaiga, his demonic nature can overtake him, transforming him into a mindless, berserker-like demon. Furthermore, his demonic powers vanish completely on the night of the new moon, reverting him to a fully human and vulnerable state with black hair. The Tessaiga itself grants him a suite of powerful techniques, including the aforementioned Wind Scar and Backlash Wave, as well as the later ability to cut through demonic barriers and the devastating Meido Zangetsuha, a technique tied to his brother’s sword that can send enemies directly to the underworld.
