Satomi Kurahashi, also known as Satomi Kurehashi, manages daily operations and presentation assistance at the Flowercrest Department Store planetarium. Initially skeptical about assigning companion robot Yumemi Hoshino as a presenter, she questions the purpose of training a robot for such duties. Over ten years of collaboration, Manager grows accustomed to Yumemi despite occasional communication misunderstandings, developing professional reliance on her.

Concern arises when Yumemi repeatedly leaves her post without authorization. Manager investigates, consulting IT specialist Gorō for diagnostics, which reveal no technical malfunctions. Amid declining planetarium attendance, Manager participates in strategy discussions with colleagues, including merchandise proposals like snow globes, while broader society experiences anti-robot riots over automation concerns.

Following Yumemi during an unauthorized excursion to a snowy park, Manager witnesses a girl strike the robot over job-related anger. After reactivating Yumemi with a snow globe during a low-power state, Manager hears Yumemi explain her excursions stemmed from a literal interpretation of colleagues' directive to "listen to Manager's concerns." In this exchange, Manager confides her professional anxieties and personal feelings.

Later deducing Yumemi's park visits originated from a childhood promise to a boy, Manager observes that boy—now an adult—attend a tenth-anniversary show where he explains his inability to fulfill the promise. Manager commits to indefinitely working with Yumemi, facilitating hardware upgrades. Her story concludes before global warfare erupts, her efforts ensuring Yumemi remains operational in the planetarium three decades later, unaware of the post-apocalyptic world.
