TV Special
Description
Frankie from the special episode One Piece Episode of Luffy: Hand Island no Bōken is a central member of the Straw Hat crew, serving as the shipwright. At this point in the story, he is the creator and caretaker of their vessel, the Thousand Sunny, having joined the crew following the events of the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs. A cyborg with a heavily modified body, Frankie has a signature appearance that includes a blue pompadour hairstyle, a metal nose, a chiseled jaw, and a habit of wearing only a swimsuit. His body is powered by cola, which fuels the various weapons and gadgets built into his frame, from his powerful fists to the flamethrowers in his forearms.

In this special, Frankie’s primary role is as the crew's engineer and a reliable combatant. The adventure on Hand Island begins when the Straw Hats are forced to use the Thousand Sunny's Coup de Burst, an explosive burst of air from the ship's rear, to evade a giant cannonball. This maneuver launches the ship onto the shore of Hand Island. While the rest of the crew explores the island, Frankie’s immediate responsibility is to stay behind and figure out how to repair the ship and move it back into the water, a task that highlights his practical skills and dedication to his duty.

Personality-wise, Frankie is loud, flamboyant, and unapologetically eccentric. He is known for his cries of super, his tendency to strike dramatic poses, and his complete lack of shame regarding his unusual appearance, which his crewmates often call "perverted." Beneath this brash exterior, however, is a deeply caring and emotional man. He is fiercely loyal to his friends, often moved to tears by their loyalty and dreams, and he carries a strong sense of justice and responsibility. This is a legacy of his late mentor, the legendary shipwright Tom, from whom he learned to always take pride in his work.

Regarding his relationships, Frankie is a fully integrated member of the Straw Hat crew. He directly addresses Captain Luffy and the others with nicknames, a habit that reflects his casual and confident nature. Throughout the events on Hand Island, he works in concert with the team, trusting them to handle the investigative and combative aspects of the problem on the island while he secures their getaway vehicle. While this special does not focus on a personal character arc or significant development for Frankie, staying true to the nature of a non-canon story, his actions consistently support his core motivation: to ensure that the Thousand Sunny, his dream ship, safely carries his captain and friends to the end of their journey.

Notable abilities on display during the special are inherently tied to his cyborg body. While much of his shipwright duties are off-screen, his very presence is a combat asset for the crew. His body is incredibly durable and houses powerful weaponry, making him a formidable fighter. The special also implicitly features his engineering genius, as he is the one responsible for creating, operating, and repairing the Coup de Burst system that drives both the plot and his own narrative purpose as the man who keeps the Straw Hats afloat.
