Description
Ayana Minase is introduced as a student at St. Mihailov Academy, where she appears to be a bespectacled and gentle classmate of the main characters Tomo Yamanobe and Mafuyu Oribe. With mid-length light brown or tan hair and gray or dark blue eyes behind her glasses, she presents the unassuming image of an average schoolgirl in the standard uniform. This friendly and somewhat timid demeanor makes her one of the few students willing to stand by Tomo and Mafuyu, who are often bullied or isolated by their peers.

Beneath this kind facade, however, lies her true identity as a member of the Adept, specifically one of the twelve Apostles. Ayana is in fact a Qwaser with control over the element magnesium, and she is the first Adept to appear in the story. Her personality is deeply duplicitous; while she acts caring and supportive as a friend, her genuine nature is cruel, sadistic, and manipulative. She is willing to commit heinous acts, including brutal murder, to achieve her goals and shows no remorse for her actions, even taking pleasure in the suffering of others. This darker personality is described in some sources as almost separate from her schoolgirl identity, emerging when she uses her powers.

As the Qwaser of Magnesium, Ayana possesses formidable combat abilities. She can create razor-sharp chakrams or chains from magnesium, which she can ignite and control at will. Her control over the metal also allows her to generate intense flames and create various alloys as needed, earning her nicknames such as Pyromaniac and Choreographer. She uses these powers to terrorize the school grounds, targeting girls and draining their Soma, the sacred energy that Qwasers require, often leaving her victims severely injured. Her ultimate goal in these attacks is to locate the Theotokos, a powerful icon, which drives her to escalate her actions.

In her role within the story, Ayana serves as the initial antagonist confronted by the protagonist, Sasha, who is known as Alexander Nikolaevich Hell. Her key relationships are built on deception; she pretends to be a loyal friend to Mafuyu and Tomo while secretly manipulating them to gather information for the Adept. She shows a twisted loyalty to her superior, Astarte, following orders with caution but also taking bold, rash actions when the situation demands it. Her betrayal culminates when she kidnaps Tomo and sadistically drains her Soma in front of her friends, an act that reveals her true nature and directly provokes Sasha into a final confrontation. In their ensuing battle, her magnesium-based attacks prove no match for Sasha's heated iron, and she is mortally wounded. Demonstrating the fanatical zeal of the Adept, she chooses to burn herself to death rather than succumb to her injuries.

Ayana's development is brief but impactful, establishing the threat posed by the Adept. Her fate does not end with her death, however. She later reappears as a reanimated corpse when another character, Friederich Tanner, summons her and other fallen Qwasers to fight a new opponent, Shinichiro Ōotori. In this state, she is easily dispatched once more and burned again, apparently for good. Her classmates, unaware of her true actions, are left to believe that she simply left school due to a family matter, such as her father's business failing.
