Description
Amon is the protagonist of the 1986 fantasy anime. He is a young warrior defined by his quest for revenge and his exceptional swordsmanship. Orphaned at a young age, his life is forever altered when Emperor Valhiss murders his mother. This traumatic event becomes the sole focus of his early life, driving him to master the blade and seek retribution against the powerful ruler.
Driven initially by a deep, personal vendetta, Amon’s personality is serious and determined. He is a man of action, skilled and resolute in his pursuit of the Emperor. His entire existence has been shaped by loss and the desire for vengeance, which gives him a grim and focused demeanor. However, as his journey progresses, other qualities emerge, including a sense of honor and the capacity for compassion, particularly in his interactions with those he comes to trust and protect.
Amon’s primary motivation is to avenge his mother’s death by killing Emperor Valhiss. To achieve this, he infiltrates the Valhiss army, hiding his true intentions behind the guise of a mercenary seeking employment. His goal is to get close enough to the Emperor to strike. This mission becomes more complicated when he encounters Princess Lichia, a hostage of the Empire. His path then expands from a solitary quest for revenge to also include the rescue of the princess and thwarting the Emperor’s larger plans for conquest.
In the story, Amon serves as the central hero. He begins as an outsider who joins the ranks of the Valhiss army as a new recruit alongside other notable fighters. While inside the fortress, he discovers Princess Lichia and learns more about the Emperor’s tyranny. His role evolves from a secretive avenger to a key figure in a rebellion against the Empire, ultimately leading a small group of allies to confront Valhiss and his forces. His actions are pivotal in the fight to free Lichia and stop the Emperor from obtaining the gold needed to conquer the world.
Amon has several key relationships that shape his journey. His mentor is Ekuna, a legendary swordsman and poet who trained Amon after the death of his mother. Ekuna deeply regrets teaching Amon the deadly skills he now uses solely for revenge, hoping his student would find a better path. Within the Valhiss army, Amon forms a strong bond of mutual respect with Gaius, a massive and powerful warrior he initially fights in a bar brawl. Gaius becomes one of his most loyal and trusted allies. He also fights alongside Alcan, a clever and agile warrior who is secretly a spy for Princess Lichia’s kingdom. His relationship with Princess Lichia begins when he saves her from a giant serpent. She becomes a key figure in his life, giving him a noble cause beyond his personal revenge.
Amon undergoes significant development throughout the narrative. He starts as a man singularly consumed by hatred and a thirst for vengeance. His meeting with Princess Lichia and his alliance with other warriors broaden his perspective. He learns to fight for others, not just against his personal enemy. By the end of his journey, his quest has transformed from a dark, personal mission into a heroic effort to defeat a great evil and save others, moving beyond the narrow path of revenge that his mentor, Ekuna, had feared for him.
Amon’s most notable ability is his incredible skill with a sword. He is depicted as a master swordsman whose abilities far surpass ordinary soldiers. His fighting style is lethal and precise, allowing him to cut down multiple enemies and even large monsters. His training under Ekuna, a legendary warrior, is the source of his exceptional talent. In addition to his swordsmanship, he is physically capable, agile, and possesses the determination and cunning necessary to infiltrate a hostile fortress and survive numerous dangerous encounters.
