Description
Rakitama, also romanized as Luckytama in some English materials, is the central Cocotama character of the anime and the mascot of its franchise. He is a male apprentice god of the Cocotama species, small spirits born from the feelings of love and care that humans invest in their treasured objects. Rakitama came into being from the colored pencil set that his human partner Kokoro Yotsuba had used and cherished since she was three years old, a gift from her grandmother. More specifically, he hatched from the green pencil that Kokoro treasured most, and for this reason he is known as the Colored Pencil God. His full name is Lucky Lucky Tamakoronosuke-no-Mikoto. In appearance he resembles a small orange hamster with a plump, soft body, and he wears the eggshell underpants typical of his kind; the mark on his underpants is a pastel green four-leaf clover. Among the main Cocotamas he is the only one whose image color is associated with the rainbow, reflecting his defining trait of luckiness.

By the rules of the Cocotama, these spirits must never let themselves be seen by humans. Rakitama, however, was spotted by Kokoro immediately after his birth. Because of this, the two formed a secret contract and became secret friends: Kokoro agreed to keep his existence hidden and to care for him, and in return Rakitama stays by her side. He is the only Cocotama who holds a formal secret contract with Kokoro, while the other Cocotamas who later join them live in the same house under a separate landlord contract.

In personality, Rakitama is curious, energetic, and playful. He is a cheerful show-off who often acts on impulse, and his enthusiasm frequently gets him into trouble, as he is clumsy and tends to rush into things without thinking through the consequences. He greets good moments with his catchphrase Lucky! and has a strong love of drawing and painting, a talent that connects naturally to his birth from colored pencils. He is good-natured and rarely stays down for long, always ready to turn a mishap into a new adventure.

His main motivation as a trainee god is to grow into a full-fledged Cocotama by helping humans and collecting Happy Stars, the happiness he helps create. He is also deeply motivated by his bond with Kokoro, whom he wants to support and protect, and by his wish to enjoy his secret life with his friends. In the story he functions as the protagonist and the de facto leader of the group of Cocotamas living in Kokoro's home: he is usually the one who proposes ideas, introduces new members, and drives the group's activities, even when his plans end in chaos.

His key relationships are centered on his household. Kokoro Yotsuba is his contract partner and closest friend, and their secret friendship is the emotional core of his story. With Geracho, a green lizard-like Cocotama born from a television, Rakitama shares a rivalry and a fighting friendship; the two love to compete, especially over comedy, and often challenge each other. Oshaki, the serious and well-read book god, serves as the group's voice of common sense and frequently scolds Rakitama when his high spirits go too far. He is also close to the gentle singer Melory, the fashion-loving Kirarise, the food-loving Mogutan, the twin shampoo gods Sarine and Parine, and the spy-like Mishil, all of whom share the Cocotama House with him.

Throughout the series, Rakitama develops from a newly born, inexperienced, and clumsy apprentice into a more responsible and thoughtful god. He learns to cooperate with others, to keep his promises, and to consider the needs of the people around him while still keeping his bright, mischievous personality. His many failures become chances to grow, and the trust between him and Kokoro deepens as the story progresses.

As a Cocotama, Rakitama can use magic by wagging his tail and chanting the spell Cocon Poipoi Cocottama! His magic is tied to his lucky nature, and he also uses his drawing skill as a form of expression and problem-solving. Like other Cocotamas, he is small enough to live unnoticed in a human home, and he must be careful not to be seen by anyone other than Kokoro, since being discovered would send him back into the object he was born from and erase the memories of their friendship.
