Description
In the anime Inazuma Eleven: Chōjigen Dream Match, the character known as Gran is Hiroto Kiyama, who serves as the captain and a midfielder for Inazuma Battle Eleven. His backstory is rooted in a childhood spent at the Sun Garden orphanage. It was there that Kira Seijirou, a wealthy and influential man, first noticed him. Seeing a resemblance to his own deceased son, also named Hiroto, Seijirou adopted the boy and gave him the name Hiroto Kiyama. This event became the defining motivation for much of his early life, as he developed a deep and unwavering loyalty to his adoptive father, believing he owed him everything.

Before the events of the Dream Match, Hiroto took on the alias Gran. As Gran, he was the formidable captain of The Genesis, the strongest team within the Aliea Academy. In this role, he was an antagonist to Raimon Junior High, initially observing their matches in secret before challenging them directly. His personality during this period was shaped by his devotion to Seijirou and his mission, appearing as a serious, calm, and overwhelmingly powerful player who could be ruthless on the field. A key moment in his development was his hesitation to remove a limiter on his team's power during a match, knowing it would cause them great physical pain. This action showed that, despite his loyalty, he cared for the well-being of his teammates, which led to him being temporarily replaced as captain.

After his defeat, Hiroto moved away from his Gran persona and, in the wider series, joined the national team, Inazuma Japan. During this transition, he began to rediscover soccer as a fun and positive sport, largely influenced by his rival and eventual friend, Endou Mamoru. This relationship was central to his change, as he shifted from a conflicted antagonist to a dependable and compassionate ally. His personality evolved to become more openly caring and team-oriented, taking on a supportive role and acting as an older brother figure to younger players.

Throughout his history, Hiroto is known for his exceptional abilities as a striker and midfielder, with his shots often being compared to comets. His signature technique is Ryuusei Blade, a powerful shot that was strong enough to break through formidable defenses. He also masters several combination hissatsu techniques, including Grand Fire with Gouenji Shuuya and Toramaru, Space Penguins with other former Aliea players, and Tenkuu Otoshi, a formidable solo shot used in high-stakes matches. As the captain of Inazuma Battle Eleven in Chōjigen Dream Match, this combination of his proven leadership, tactical mind, and powerful offensive techniques is what defines his role on the team.
