Description
Chad Chadan is a supporting character in the narrative of Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans. His origins lie with the Chryse Guard Security Third Group, a unit composed largely of child soldiers and Human Debris. As a member of this group, Chad was initially a pilot of a mobile worker, the smaller, tank-like vehicles used for ground combat. After the group's mutiny against its adult leadership and its reformation into the independent organization Tekkadan, Chad, like many of his comrades who were former Human Debris, chose to remain with the new team despite being given the freedom to leave.

In terms of personality, Chad is defined by his cool-headed and level-headed nature. He is a composed individual who genuinely cares about the well-being of his comrades and is regarded as reliable and trustworthy by the other members of Tekkadan. This sense of responsibility is a key trait, as he is later entrusted with a leadership position. One notable moment that underscores his care for his fellows occurs after he awakens from a long coma; he is visibly distressed to learn that many of his comrades perished while he was incapacitated.

Chad's abilities and role within Tekkadan evolve significantly over the course of the story. He has undergone the Alaya-Vijnana surgical procedure, a risky operation that grants a pilot enhanced spatial awareness and a high information transfer rate when interfacing with a mobile suit or mobile worker. He begins his career as a mobile worker pilot but later transitions to serving as the co-pilot of the Isaribi, Tekkadan's flagship transport vessel. Eventually, he develops into a capable mobile suit pilot. According to the mechanic Nadi Yukinojo Kassapa, Chad's piloting skills noticeably improved after his time spent on Earth. On Earth, he pilots a Landman Rodi, a sturdy, ground-use mobile suit.

His role in the story becomes particularly prominent during Tekkadan's mission on Earth. He is assigned to protect Togonosuke Makanai, the Prime Minister of Arbrau. In this capacity, he demonstrates his quick thinking and loyalty when he notices a suspicious flower pot in a room and immediately moves himself and Makanai to safety just before it detonates. This act saves the Prime Minister's life but results in Chad being severely injured and placed into a coma. This event inadvertently leads to a war between the SAU and Arbrau and allows a corrupt officer to manipulate the inexperienced members of Tekkadan's Earth branch, of which Chad was the appointed manager.

After recovering and returning to Mars, Chad rejoins the main Tekkadan force. He participates in the pivotal arc involving the ancient Mobile Armor Hashmal. During this battle, he displays great courage and physical skill. When Akihiro Altland's Gundam stalls mid-jump, rendering its pilot unconscious, Chad abandons his own weapon to catch the falling Gundam. He then uses a hammer chopper to strike Hashmal, successfully drawing its attention away from a civilian agricultural facility and redirecting it towards the planned ambush point.

Chad's key relationships are primarily with his fellow Tekkadan members. He works closely with Dante Mogro, another former Human Debris, as part of the bridge crew and in various operations. He shares a strong bond of mutual trust with the group's leader, Orga Itsuka, and takes part in the final, desperate battles alongside him. A more minor, but telling, relationship is his reaction to the news that his comrades Merribit Stapleton and Nadi Yukinojo Kassapa began dating while he was away; he is surprised and somewhat upset that nobody informed him, highlighting his personal connection to the group's internal affairs.

Throughout the series, Chad develops from a background mobile worker pilot into a frontline mobile suit pilot and a trusted leader. He is one of the few members of Tekkadan's original third group to serve as a manager for the organization, demonstrating his growth in maturity and responsibility. In the aftermath of Tekkadan's eventual downfall, Chad survives the final conflict. He later finds a new purpose, becoming an assistant to Kudelia Aina Bernstein after she is elected president of the Mars Union, living under a new identity.
