Nozomi Matsunaga is the younger sister of Tomoya Matsunaga, one of the four main male friends in the series. She first meets Keiichi Katakura when he helps her after she injures her foot at the beach, and from that moment she develops a strong romantic attachment to him. She is a lively and cheerful girl with a kind and caring nature, though she is also prone to clumsiness, awkwardness, and crying easily, a tendency that has been with her since childhood. Despite her gentle disposition, she is remarkably stubborn and strong‑willed; even after Keiichi tells her she is not his type and she learns about his split personality, she refuses to give up on him. She refers to him as Keiichi‑san and is determined to be with him, even going so far as to change her choice of high school to stay close to him.

Nozomi plays a key role in the story as one of the four female deuteragonists. Her primary motivation is to win Keiichi’s affection and build a relationship with him, which often puts her in direct contrast with his usual dominant personality. Her boundless energy and guileless honesty make her the only character who can consistently leave Keiichi flustered and emotionally unsettled. Within the friend group, she is also well‑mannered and tries to be supportive of the others.

Her development centers on her growing determination to pursue Keiichi despite his rejections and her own insecurities. Over time, she shows that she is not just a naive admirer but someone capable of standing her ground and challenging him.
