Description
Chess Belle is a vampire of the seventeenth progenitor rank in the anime Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya. She serves as a devoted attendant and aide to the much more powerful thirteenth progenitor, Crowley Eusford, alongside her frequent companion, Horn Skuld. In the conflicts of the series, Chess is an antagonist working to maintain vampire dominance over humanity.

In terms of appearance, Chess Belle has a short stature, standing at 151 centimeters, with an hourglass figure. She has chin-length iris-blue hair with bangs that frame her face, and like all vampires, she possesses red eyes, visible fangs, and pointed ears, although her ears are often hidden. Her typical attire consists of a headband that matches Horn's, a black collar, and a white cape. She wears a low-cut black and white dress with detached black sleeves, a blue bow on her bodice, and a large bow at the back of her skirt. Her outfit is completed with black stockings and blue high heels.

Chess Belle’s personality is characterized by a free-spirited and unrestrained nature. She often acts like a bratty, apathetic, and sassy teenager, frequently seen texting on her phone and affecting a self-centered persona. This childish and immature behavior creates a distinct contrast with the more serious and mature demeanor of her partner, Horn. Chess is prone to jealousy, easily becoming envious when others receive attention, such as when Horn was allowed to drink Crowley's blood. A significant aspect of her personality is her difficulty in controlling her bloodlust; unlike some other vampires, she frequently kills the humans she drinks from because she cannot stop her desire for blood. Despite her bratty exterior, she is deeply fond of both Crowley and Horn, is loyal to her master Crowley, and is committed to acting in her group's interest during battles.

Chess Belle’s primary motivation is her loyalty to Crowley Eusford. She considers his happiness her own hobby and takes great pleasure in drinking his blood, which is her favorite food. Beyond this devotion, she is also driven by her natural vampiric instincts, particularly her desire to hunt and feed on humans, often getting carried away in the process.

In the story, Chess Belle plays a supporting role as a minor antagonist and a formidable fighter. During the events in Nagoya, she and Horn are among the vampire nobles targeted by a human extermination mission. Together with Crowley, they occupy the Nagoya City Hall. She participates in several key battles against the Moon Demon Company, particularly against Shinoa Squad. In combat, she uses her supernatural speed and strength to defend Crowley and engage enemies, such as when she deflects Yuichiro Hyakuya's cursed weapon attacks and fights alongside Horn against the squad's combined abilities. Her role is that of a loyal soldier who directly supports her master in the conflict.

Key relationships define Chess Belle’s character. Her most important relationship is with Crowley Eusford, to whom she is absolutely loyal and whose blood she craves. She is often seen in his company and follows his orders without question. Her other primary relationship is with Horn Skuld. The two are frequently paired together, with Horn acting as a foil to Chess’s impulsiveness, often chiding her for her lack of restraint. Despite her jealousy and their bickering, Chess deeply cares for Horn and works seamlessly with her in battle. She also expresses a dislike for the seventh progenitor Ferid Bathory, finding his mysterious and sneaky nature annoying.

Chess Belle shows some development in her consistency as a capable and ruthless fighter. While she maintains her childish personality out of combat, she remains earnest and dependable when fighting, showing that her immaturity does not hinder her effectiveness in battle. Her primary personal struggle remains her inability to control her own bloodlust, a trait she does not overcome in her appearances.

Chess Belle possesses the notable abilities common to vampires, which are heightened due to her status as a seventeenth progenitor. She is far stronger and faster than any human, with supernatural reflexes. This power allows her to leap great distances and deliver sword strikes with enough force to crater the ground. In combat, she wields a double-edged rapier with a golden hilt and a long, tapered gray blade. She uses this weapon with skill, blocking powerful attacks from cursed gear and engaging trained human soldiers in melee combat.
