Description
Akane Sakurada is the main protagonist of the story and the fourth oldest child of the Sakurada family, making her one of the nine royal siblings competing to become the next monarch. She is a fifteen-year-old girl with a petite frame, deep red hair often styled into twintails, and red eyes. Her family strives to live as normally as possible despite their royal status, so she typically wears casual clothing or her school uniform.

At her core, Akane is defined by extreme shyness that borders on a phobia. She has a pronounced fear of being watched, to the point of having a well-documented terror of the many security cameras that monitor her family's daily life as part of their public election. Her discomfort is so severe that she has memorized the locations of over two hundred cameras around her residence simply to avoid them. This intense self-consciousness is her primary character flaw and the source of much of the series' comedy.

Despite this overwhelming shyness, Akane possesses a vibrant and energetic personality when she is comfortable. She is inherently kind and possesses a strong sense of justice, often going out of her way to help others, even if it inadvertently draws the attention she so desperately wishes to avoid. She cherishes her time at school because it is the one place where she feels she can be treated like a normal girl rather than a princess.

Her central motivation is directly tied to her greatest fear. Akane initially has no desire to win the royal election, but she realizes that as the reigning monarch, she would have the authority to remove the ubiquitous security cameras from her life. This pragmatic, if ironic, goal pushes her to participate in the public campaign she otherwise finds mortifying. To boost her popularity without directly facing the public as herself, she adopts the secret identity of Scarlet Bloom, a masked superhero who fights petty crime while wearing a black dress and red glasses, convinced that this simple disguise makes her unrecognizable. This alter-ego allows her to channel her love of justice and desire to help people in a way that feels safe.

Akane's primary ability is a supernatural power called Gravity Core, which grants her control over gravity. She can manipulate the gravity of herself and any object or person she touches. This power allows her to float or fly through the air, dramatically increase her speed and physical strength, and lift objects that would otherwise be impossibly heavy. However, like her siblings, she is not immune to losing control; during a period known as Break Out, her powers can become unpredictable and go berserk, causing chaotic gravity fluctuations around her.

Her key relationships are primarily with her large family. She shares a loving bond with all eight of her siblings, including her protective older sister Kanade and her older brother Shuu, even as they are all technically rivals for the throne. Her parents, King Souichirou and Queen Satsuki, are supportive and wish for her to have a normal, happy life. At school, her best friend Karen Ayugase is a constant source of support, and she is generally well-liked by her peers, to the point of having an oblivious admiration from an unofficial fan club.

Over the course of the story, Akane undergoes notable development as she learns to confront her fears. While her shyness remains a core part of her character, her experiences as Scarlet Bloom and her interactions with her family and the public help her gain confidence and a better understanding of her own strengths. She begins to grapple with her self-consciousness, moving from a girl who simply wants to hide from the world to one who can stand up and be seen, even if it is still a struggle.
