Description
Ouka Ootori (鳳 桜花) is the primary female protagonist of the story and a first-year student at the Anti-Magic Academy, where she is assigned to the 35th Test Platoon, a unit known derisively as the Small-Fry Platoon. Before coming to the academy, she was a member of the Dullahan, the Inquisition's elite special unit EXE, and the youngest person ever to become an Inquisitor. Her career came to an abrupt end when she killed a witch in violation of regulations, an act of excessive force that led to her demotion and reassignment. Her placement in the 35th Platoon was secretly arranged by the academy's chairman, who is also her adoptive father.
Ouka's background is defined by tragedy. Her adoptive family was killed by a witch when she was young, and in the incident she was possessed and forced to kill her adoptive parents and younger sister. This trauma is the root of her intense hatred of witches and magic, and it drove her to devote her entire life to hunting them. Her ruthlessness in the field earned her the nickname Calamity, a reference to the way she would shoot down offenders without mercy. Her efficiency and dedication made her a prodigy who excelled in every form of combat and possessed the skill to operate entirely alone.
In personality, Ouka is rigid, strong-willed, and military in manner. She has a powerful sense of justice and an intolerance for wrongdoing, which makes her inflexible in her methods and slow to accept compromise. Years of working solo left her socially awkward and poor at reading situations, and she tends to be blunt and confrontational.
