OVA
Description
Konekomaru Miwa is a young exorcist-in-training who appears as a supporting character in the Blue Exorcist: Kuro Runs Away From Home OVA. He is an Exwire of the True Cross Order and a student at the Exorcist Cram School, training to become an Aria, a type of exorcist who uses scripture and sutras to combat demons. Konekomaru hails from Kyoto and is the surviving head of the Miwa family. His father died during the Blue Night and his mother later as well, leaving him an orphan. He was taken in by the Suguro family, specifically by the priest Tatsuma Suguro, and raised alongside Ryuji Suguro and Renzou Shima. This background instills in him a deep sense of gratitude and loyalty toward those who cared for him.
Personality wise, Konekomaru is timid and cautious, often anxious about the dangers around him. He prefers to avoid direct confrontation and is uncomfortable being at the center of action, which is why he aims to become an Aria and support his allies from a distance. Despite his nervous disposition, he possesses a sharp intellect and is capable of formulating complex strategies quickly. He often acts as a peacemaker, trying to defuse tensions between his more hot-headed friends, particularly Ryuji Suguro. He is kind, gentle, and deeply loyal, and though he appears soft, he can display bravery when his friends are in danger. His traumatic past has given him a wariness of demons, but he channels this into his studies and his desire to protect others.
In the Kuro Runs Away From Home OVA, Konekomaru appears alongside his fellow exwires as they deal with the titular cat familiar Kuro running away from the True Cross Academy. His role in the story is consistent with his character: he contributes with his analytical mind and caution, helping the group assess the situation. He is shown interacting with Ryuji Suguro, Renzou Shima, Rin Okumura, and others, maintaining his typical dynamic as the thoughtful and slightly worried member of the team.
His key relationships are with Ryuji Suguro, whom he calls Bon, and Renzou Shima. The three grew up together in Kyoto and remain close friends. Konekomaru often relies on Suguro’s strength and decisiveness while also tempering his impulsiveness. He also respects and feels indebted to Tatsuma Suguro, who raised him. Within the wider exwire group, he maintains cordial relationships with his classmates, though he remains somewhat reserved.
Over the course of the series, Konekomaru gradually gains more confidence in his abilities, though he remains inherently cautious. The events of the OVA do not significantly alter his character, but they reinforce his supportive role in the group and his growing bond with his peers.
In terms of abilities, Konekomaru is training to become an Aria, so his primary skill lies in the recitation of fatal verses and sutras. He is knowledgeable about scripture and can recite passages accurately even under pressure. He is also a skilled strategist, able to think through problems methodically. Physically, he is small and not suited for frontline combat, but his mental agility and knowledge make him a valuable asset in any exorcist team.
