Description
Lieutenant Charlie is a New York Police Department professional who is recruited by Jirokichi Suzuki as one of the seven specialists, dubbed the Seven Samurai, tasked with overseeing the security and transportation of the Van Gogh Sunflowers paintings for a major exhibition in Japan. His primary responsibility is to safeguard the painting while it is still in New York and during its journey overseas. Charlie is a straightforward, determined law enforcement officer who takes his duties seriously and approaches the challenge of protecting the artwork with a no-nonsense attitude. He is not easily intimidated, as shown when he actively pursues the phantom thief Kaito Kid after the thief announces his presence at the press conference and later during various encounters. Charlie's pursuit of Kid is dogged, and he is willing to use force, such as when he fires a gun at Kid during an escape. However, his relentless focus on capturing Kid also makes him a figure of suspicion in the narrative, as the film deliberately paints him as a possible red herring before the true culprit is revealed. Despite this, Charlie remains a loyal and capable member of the security team, working alongside other experts like the private detective Kogoro Mori and the young detective Conan Edogawa. His interactions with Conan are cooperative, with Charlie sometimes following Conan's leads during the investigation. Throughout the story, Charlie does not undergo significant personal development, as his role is largely functional: he represents the official law enforcement presence and serves as a physical obstacle to Kid's heists. His notable abilities include standard police training in pursuit, marksmanship, and tactical awareness, though he is consistently outmaneuvered by Kid's clever tricks and gadgets. His background as a New York police officer lends him an authoritative demeanor, but he is ultimately a supporting character whose presence reinforces the high-stakes security surrounding the exhibition.
