Description
Kazuomi Ooga is a third-year student at Aoba High School, where he is classmates with the protagonist, Arata Kaizaki. He is physically characterized by his light brown hair, brown eyes, and a single earring in his left ear, which matches one worn by Rena Kariu. His school uniform, a white shirt with a black tie and a light gray sweater, originally belonged to his older brother and is noticeably loose-fitting on his slender frame. Born on June 4th, he stands at 171 cm tall.

At his core, Kazuomi is a diligent and serious student, singularly focused on his academic performance. He consistently earns the highest test scores among the boys in his grade, a feat that leads to him being frequently selected as class representative. This academic prowess, combined with his considered good looks, sharply contrasts with his poor athletic ability, which is a running source of humor. More significantly, his personality is defined by a profound denseness when it comes to romance and social cues, leaving him completely unaware of the feelings others, specifically Rena Kariu, have for him. Despite this obliviousness, he is a caring and loyal friend, often looking up to Arata for advice and admiring what he perceives as Arata's experience with women.

Kazuomi's motivations are heavily rooted in his family's financial situation. His family does not have a large amount of money, which drives him to work hard to remain at the top of his class. By securing top grades, he ensures that his family does not have to pay for his school meals, lessening their financial burden. This sense of responsibility is also tied to his older brother, Takaomi Ooga. Kazuomi greatly respects his brother, who previously shouldered the responsibility of providing for the family. Even after Takaomi became a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), Kazuomi views it as his own turn to be responsible, allowing his brother time to rest. The matching earring, which was done by his brother, is one of his most treasured possessions and a symbol of the time when his brother worked cheerfully. In addition to his academic drive, he works a part-time job at a convenience store to help support his household and is skilled at cooking and other domestic tasks.

Within the story, Kazuomi plays a crucial role as one of Arata Kaizaki's close friends. He is often seen helping Arata with his studies, especially when Arata must take retests. Through his friendship with the more mature Kaizaki, Kazuomi begins to navigate social and emotional situations he otherwise would not. The most significant aspect of his role is his slow-building romance with his childhood friend, Rena Kariu. The two have been close since middle school, but due to his dense personality, he does not realize Rena's affection for him. It is through Arata's encouragement and guidance that Kazuomi finally becomes aware of his own feelings for Rena. He confesses to her during the summer festival, and the two begin a relationship. This relationship later deepens, and eventually, they marry.

Kazuomi's development throughout the series centers on his emotional awakening. He transitions from a boy singularly focused on academic achievement and family duty to a young man who recognizes and acts upon his personal desires, particularly his love for Rena. He learns to balance his part-time job and responsibilities with his new relationship, even if initial friction occurs when he prioritizes work over a date. He also faces difficult decisions about his future, torn between the financially safe path of internal university admission and the desire to follow his own ambitions, partly influenced by his brother's struggles.

Kazuomi's notable abilities are firmly in the academic realm, where he excels and is able to explain difficult concepts to his struggling friends. He is also a capable cook and household manager. In sharp contrast, his notable weakness is his complete lack of athletic ability.
