Description
Momoshiki Otsutsuki is a member of the main family of the Otsutsuki clan, an ancient and powerful lineage that travels across dimensions to harvest chakra by cultivating Divine Trees. He is sent to investigate the fate of Kaguya Otsutsuki, who had been planted on Earth, and to reclaim the chakra fruit that she failed to deliver. Upon finding Earth, Momoshiki discovers that Kaguya has been defeated and that her chakra has spread among humans and the tailed beasts. He decides to absorb that chakra himself and plant a new Divine Tree.

In personality, Momoshiki is supremely arrogant and views all other beings as inferior creatures meant only to serve as food for the God Tree. He demonstrates a laziness that masks a keen and adaptable intellect, capable of crafting schemes and altering his tactics as situations change. He shows little regard for his own partner, Kinshiki Otsutsuki, and does not hesitate to sacrifice him by converting him into a chakra pill and consuming him when the battle turns difficult. His primary motivations are immortality and godlike power, which he seeks by consuming chakra fruits harvested from Divine Trees. He treats conflict as a game and often laughs at the efforts of his opponents.

Momoshiki's role in the story begins as the primary antagonist of Boruto: Naruto the Movie. He and Kinshiki attack the Hidden Leaf Village during the Chunin Exams, destroying much of the arena and abducting the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, to extract the Nine-Tails' chakra. A combined force of Boruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and the five Kage confront him in another dimension. After consuming Kinshiki, Momoshiki becomes far more powerful, gaining an additional Rinnegan on his forehead and transforming his appearance. He is ultimately defeated by Naruto and Boruto working together, using a massive combined Rasengan. As he dies, Momoshiki freezes time and speaks directly to Boruto, declaring that Boruto's blue eyes will take everything from him. He then places a Karma seal on Boruto's right hand, allowing his consciousness to survive within the boy and slowly overwrite Boruto's body.

Key relationships include his partnership with Kinshiki, who serves as a subordinate and eventual power source; his adversarial relationships with Naruto, Sasuke, and Boruto; and a brief connection with the Otsutsuki member Urashiki, who provides intelligence about Earth. After his physical death, Momoshiki's spiritual presence remains a constant threat, able to take control of Boruto's body when the boy's chakra runs low or he loses consciousness. This manifests during fights against Kara members such as Boro, where Momoshiki uses Boruto's body to absorb chakra, create a massive Rasengan, and destroy the enemy. He also tries to kill Sasuke by stabbing his Rinnegan, though he is eventually suppressed by medicine and Boruto's own will. Over the course of the sequel series, Boruto learns to access some of Momoshiki's power voluntarily, but with the risk that Momoshiki could fully resurrect and take permanent control. The fear of this event drives Boruto to ask his adoptive brother Kawaki to kill him should the possession become irreversible.

Momoshiki possesses a pair of Byakugan in his eyes, granting near‑360‑degree vision and the ability to see chakra flow. In the palms of his hands he has Rinnegan, which allow him to absorb any ninjutsu and either nullify it or release it back with amplified power. After consuming Kinshiki, a third Rinnegan appears on his forehead, further enhancing his strength. He is proficient in space‑time ninjutsu, able to create dimensional portals and travel between worlds. He also uses chakra‑absorption techniques, shadow‑paralysis jutsu, and the Karma seal, which serves as both a backup of his consciousness and a means of marking a vessel for resurrection. While not a hand‑to‑hand specialist, his raw power and ability to turn an opponent's own techniques against them make him a formidable foe.
