Description
Kinshiki Otsutsuki is a major antagonist who appears in Boruto: Naruto the Movie and the subsequent arc of the Boruto anime and manga. He is a male member of the Otsutsuki clan, a race of celestial beings who travel between dimensions to harvest the chakra from the生命 energy of planets to create a chakra fruit, which grants them immense power and longevity. Physically, Kinshiki is extraordinarily tall, standing at 231 centimeters, with a burly and imposing physique. He has pale skin, short, spiky blue-grey hair, and a full beard. Like many of his clan, he possesses the Byakugan in his eyes and has a distinctive horn protruding from his forehead, though he loses one of his horns during a battle with Sasuke Uchiha. His typical attire consists of a pale yellow shirt covered by a darker garment, along with a grey sash, grey trousers, and flat, black footwear.

Kinshiki’s primary role within his duo is as the guardian and obedient subordinate to his foster son, Momoshiki Otsutsuki. He is fiercely loyal to Momoshiki, serving as his protector and enforcer. His personality is defined by this absolute devotion; he is stoic, serious, and completely dedicated to serving Momoshiki's will without question. Kinshiki is a formidable and relentless fighter who takes threats seriously and is not prone to underestimating his opponents. Despite his calm and loyal demeanor, he can be vindictive, as shown when he relentlessly pursues Sasuke Uchiha after losing one of his horns in their first encounter. His greatest display of loyalty comes at the end of his story arc, where he willingly offers himself to be transformed into a chakra pill and consumed by Momoshiki so that his foster son could gain enough power to defeat his enemies. This act mirrors his own past, as it is revealed that Kinshiki himself had previously consumed the chakra of his own guardian.

Kinshiki’s background is tied to the larger mission of the Otsutsuki clan. Along with Momoshiki and, in the anime, another clan member named Urashiki, he was sent to investigate why Kaguya Otsutsuki had failed to send back a chakra fruit from Earth. His role in the story begins when he and Momoshiki encounter Sasuke in one of Kaguya’s dimensions. He engages Sasuke in a fierce battle, demonstrating his immense physical power. They later travel to Earth, where they defeat Killer B to extract the Eight-Tails' chakra and then attack Konohagakure during the Chunin Exams. Their ultimate goal is to capture Naruto Uzumaki and extract the Nine-Tails' chakra. After successfully taking Naruto to another dimension, the five Kage, Sasuke, and Boruto Uzumaki arrive to rescue him. During the ensuing battle, Kinshiki fights against several Kage-level opponents simultaneously, showcasing his incredible strength and abilities. When the tide of battle turns against them, Kinshiki urges Momoshiki to consume him to gain more power, and Momoshiki does so without hesitation.

Kinshiki possesses a range of notable abilities that make him a tremendous threat. He has superhuman strength, capable of destroying the Chunin Exam arena floor with a single blow and cutting down a massive God Tree with one swing of his weapon. He has shown the ability to augment his muscles to break free from powerful restraining techniques. He is a highly skilled close-quarters combatant, able to fight on par with Sasuke Uchiha and multiple Kage simultaneously. Like other Otsutsuki, he can levitate and, in the anime, is shown using Space-Time Ninjutsu to transport himself between dimensions. He possesses the Byakugan, which gives him near 360-degree vision, telescopic sight, X-ray vision, and the ability to see a person's chakra pathway system. One of his signature techniques is the ability to absorb ninjutsu and convert that chakra into various red-glowing weapons, such as a halberd, blades, chains, and axes, which he wields with great proficiency. He also has the ability to use Lightning Release to cloak himself in electricity, apparently to increase his speed. While his character shows little development beyond his unwavering loyalty, his ultimate fate is a significant act that defines his entire purpose: to sacrifice himself entirely for Momoshiki's success, transforming from a powerful warrior into a source of sustenance to elevate his master to a new, more powerful form.
