Description
Julius-Alexia von Riessfeld is a central character and one of the primary heroines of The Asterisk War. She is a student at Seidoukan Academy and the first princess of the small European kingdom of Lieseltania. With her long, bright pink hair and cyan eyes, she is described as a rose-like and beautiful young woman, typically seen wearing her academy’s uniform.
Born into royalty as the first princess, her full name is Julius-Alexia Marie Florentia Renate von Riessfeld. Her older brother, Jolbert, is the king of Lieseltania. Despite her noble status, her motivations are deeply rooted in a desire to help the less fortunate. As a child, she became close with an orphanage, forming a particularly strong bond with another girl there, Orphelia Landlufen. When the orphanage faced financial troubles that threatened to close it down, she made it her primary goal to raise the necessary funds by winning the星武祭, the tournament held in the academy city. This is the reason she came to Asterisk and enrolled at Seidoukan Academy. Her ambitions also extend to the political sphere, as she aims to win the星武祭 to gain the power and influence needed to reform her home country, which is essentially a puppet state of large corporate conglomerates, and free it from their control.
She is an elegant and proud individual who often comes across as hot-headed, stubborn, and cold to those she does not know. This facade, however, conceals an honorable, faithful, and loyal person who would go to great lengths for her friends. She has a well-defined soft spot for children. Initially, she treats the protagonist, Ayato Amagiri, with disdain and suspicion, especially following their first, rather awkward meeting. Over time, she warms up to him and his friends, eventually calling them by their first names. One of her notable traits is a fear of disappointment and rejection, which makes her dislike relying on others and drives her to solve problems on her own. Her relationship with Ayato grows from reluctant partners to close friends and skilled combat allies, and she eventually develops strong romantic feelings for him. She has also known her fellow student, Claudia Enfield, since they were both young, indicating a long-standing connection within the academy’s elite.
As a member of the星脈世代, Julius is a powerful Strega, or witch, which means she can use her prana, or life force, to manipulate the laws of nature. Specifically, she has the ability to generate and control large amounts of fire, earning her the title of the Blazing Flame Witch. Her fighting style is extremely versatile, using her flames for direct attacks, defensive barriers, creating traps, and even as a booster for high-speed mobility and flight. She visualizes her powers in the image of flowers, and many of her techniques are named accordingly. For a significant part of the story, she wields a rapier-type Lux weapon known as Aspera Spina, but it is destroyed during the Phoenix星武祭 finals. Afterward, she receives a new, long-range guided Lux weapon called Nova Spina, developed jointly by Seidoukan Academy and Allekant. Among her most formidable techniques is Queen of the Night, a powerful but risky attack that pushes her stamina, mind, and prana to their absolute limits, making it usable only once per tournament.
Julius holds the rank of fifth within the Seidoukan Academy's elite group known as the Starting Twelve, which denotes her as one of the school's top fighters. Her main goal in the story is to win all three major星武祭 tournaments: the Phoenix, the Gryps, and the王龙星武祭. To this end, she forms a partnership with Ayato to compete in the Phoenix星武祭, which they eventually win, allowing her to secure the funds needed to save the orphanage. Building on this success, she participates in the Gryps星武祭 as a member of Team Enfield, alongside Ayato, Claudia, Saya Sasamiya, and Kirin Toudou. They achieve victory in this tournament as well, a win she intends to use as leverage to begin the political reform of Lieseltania. Her final goal is to compete in the王龙星武祭, partly to fulfill her dream of winning all three tournaments and partly to confront her childhood friend, Orphelia, and save her from her tragic circumstances. Throughout the story, Julius develops from a proud and solitary princess into a cooperative and caring team member, learning to trust others and fight not just for her own ambitions, but for the sake of her friends and her country.
