Description
Yamatonokami Yasusada, an uchigatana forged in 1655 by his namesake swordsmith, carries the legacy of Okita Souji, the Shinsengumi captain he reveres. His identity remains inextricably linked to Okita’s memory, driving his resolve to mirror his master’s strength in duty and combat. Reserved yet fiercely determined, he masks a tenacious spirit beneath a quiet demeanor, balancing timidity with unyielding loyalty.

At the citadel, his bond with Kashuu Kiyomitsu—another Okita-linked sword—solidifies into the partnership dubbed “Okitagumi,” blending shared history with tactical synergy. Their dynamic evolves during the 1864 Ikeda Inn mission, where Yasusada’s leadership falters under haunting recollections of Okita’s fading health. Injured and vulnerable, he relies on Kashuu’s aid, emerging with renewed conviction to safeguard history’s integrity. Kashuu’s hairpin, gifted post-battle, stands as a testament to their forged trust.

Kiwame training later redirects his path, temporarily removing him from the citadel to refine his purpose. Though absent, his influence lingers through mentees like Imanotsurugi and the communal bonds he nurtured. Upon returning in the *Setsugetsuka* trilogy, his focus sharpens on preserving history without interference, even as Okita’s shadow lingers. Interactions highlight his maturation—guiding younger swords, navigating collective life, and reconciling emotional ties to the past with his role as an unwavering guardian.
