Description
Natsumi Tsujimoto is one of the two main protagonists of the series You're Under Arrest. She works as a patrol officer at the fictional Bokuto Police Station in Tokyo's Sumida Ward. Her background includes growing up in Asakusa and attending the Metropolitan Police Department Academy, where she became classmates with her future partner, Miyuki Kobayakawa. On her first day at Bokuto, Natsumi was late for work and ended up in a chase with Miyuki, an incident that led to their long-term partnership.
Personality-wise, Natsumi is outgoing, laid back, and often late for her shifts. She has a prodigious appetite for food and alcohol, and has been known to report to work with a hangover. Despite these casual habits, she takes her duties seriously when needed and is a highly capable officer. Her motivations are rooted in a genuine desire to serve and protect, even if her approach is relaxed and unorthodox. She is brash, headstrong, and passionate, but also caring and loyal to her colleagues and friends.
In the story, Natsumi serves as the physical and action-oriented half of the duo. She is a motorcycle enthusiast who can perform high-risk maneuvers on both bikes and mopeds. Her partner, Miyuki Kobayakawa, is more reserved and technically brilliant, and their contrasting personalities create a dynamic partnership that becomes the heart of the series. Initially skeptical of each other, they develop a deep friendship and professional trust. Natsumi also forms key relationships with other characters: she has infatuations with Detective Tokuno and the Traffic Division chief (referred to as Kachou), and later develops a rivalry and eventual romantic interest in Shoji Tokairin, another officer with superhuman strength. Her bond with her parents, Kazuhiro and Hiromi Tsujimoto, is mentioned but not deeply explored.
Natsumi’s development spans the series. She is scouted for a prototype female motorcycle unit but declines further training. She and Miyuki dismantle a car smuggling syndicate, which leads to their transfer to a specialized program under Assistant Kaoruko Kinoshita. Later, she is recruited into the Special Assault Team, a move that temporarily strains her friendship with Miyuki, but they reconcile. She also trains with the JGSDF's Ranger Platoon before returning to Bokuto Station as Miyuki's partner once more. An overseas exchange program sends both to Los Angeles, and she plays a key role in apprehending a renegade officer during the Hachi-Ichi-Go crisis.
Notable abilities include superhuman strength, second only to Tokairin, which allows her to overpower opponents in hand-to-hand combat. She is trained in judo and kendo and can defeat opponents in training sessions. Her strength and reflexes make her the only person able to consistently hit the baseball-like fastballs of a character called Strikeman, earning her the nickname Home-Run Woman. She is a skilled motorcyclist and adapts her driving to vehicles modified by Miyuki, such as a Subaru R-2 converted into a patrol car using a motorcycle engine. Her mini-moped, a Honda Motocompo, is stored in Miyuki’s squad car and used for flanking tactics. These physical talents complement Miyuki’s technical and strategic abilities, making them a renowned team at Bokuto Station.
