Orson is a human mercenary who appears as a supporting character in the television anime Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. He was born in a rural village and lived as an ordinary country boy until goblins destroyed his home and killed his sister before his eyes. In the aftermath of that trauma, he became possessed by Hyuri, a spirit of war and rage, and was transformed into a berserker. The red jewel set into his sword and his brooch are outward signs of Hyuri's hold over him. According to background information on the character, he had shown strong potential as a spirit user before this event, but that aptitude was overtaken by his violent condition.

In his normal state, Orson is quiet and withdrawn, a man who carries his fury beneath the surface. When his rage erupts, he becomes a terrifying force on the battlefield, gaining enough strength to cut through solid rock with the sheer energy of his anger. Parn, who witnesses his fury firsthand, is shocked by the depth of it. Orson's reputation as a berserker is so widely known that even the dark elves are wary of him, and his presence alone is enough to make Pirotess and her companions retreat and release Deedlit. Despite his power, he is not a willing destroyer. He relies on his partner Shiris, the only person who can calm him and pull him back from his berserker state, and he is secretly in love with her. His condition prevents him from admitting those feelings, because he cannot trust what he becomes when his rage takes over.

Orson's motivations center on loyalty to Shiris and the desire to protect her. The two work together as mercenaries, and it is when Shiris finds herself in mortal danger that his berserker state is most often triggered. He joins Parn and the other heroes during their campaign against the fire dragon Shooting Star, which has been terrorizing the lands of Raiden and Flaim. He fights alongside King Kashue of Flaim in the assault on the dragon, taking part in the strike with the holy lances of Myree that brings Fire Dragon Mountain down upon the beast. Later, when Parn leaves to warn the other kingdoms of the coming threat, Orson senses the danger in the darkening sky and sets out with Shiris to find him, discovering Parn gravely wounded. He is also among the first to understand Parn's anxiety over Deedlit, and he proposes that he and Shiris ride to rally the kingdoms of Lodoss to arms while Parn continues toward Marmo.

In the television series, Orson's development reaches its climax in the final battle. After he is cut by Ashram's demon sword Soul Crusher and struck by the roar of the water dragon Abra, he breaks free of Hyuri's domination and briefly regains command of himself, no longer acting as a berserker. When Shiris falls into mortal danger, however, he chooses to become a berserker once more in order to save her. The decision costs him his life, and in his final rampage he takes the female warrior Smeddy and the spirit user Astaal with him. His body is buried by Shiris on the slopes of Fire Dragon Mountain. In the earlier original video animation adaptation of the story, Orson does not die, and he remains with his companions to see Parn and Deedlit depart.
