OVA
Description
Billy Fanword is a character who appears in the third episode of the AD Police Files OVA series, titled The Man Who Bites His Tongue. Before his transformation, he served as an officer in the AD Police, where he was well-regarded and popular among his unit. His life changed dramatically after he sustained massive, critical injuries during a confrontation with a rogue boomer.
Following this near-fatal incident, Billy was subjected to an experimental cybernetic operation without his consent. The procedure replaced almost his entire body with mechanical substitutes, leaving only his brain and his tongue as the remaining organic parts. After the operation, he was promoted two ranks to become the Commander of the AD Police Special Mobile Squad, functioning as an anti-boomer cyborg officer and essentially a walking tank with a human brain, designed to be calm and decisive in dangerous situations due to his inability to feel pain.
Despite his enhanced capabilities, Billy struggled with the psychological effects of his new existence. The lack of physical stimulation and human sensation, with his tongue being the only part of him that could still feel, slowly caused him to lose his sanity. To remind himself that he was once human, he developed the habit of biting his tongue. His condition was exacerbated by a prideful doctor who continuously injected him with increasing doses of a drug called DA-27 through his tongue to heighten his sensations, an act that ultimately drove him completely insane.
A key figure in his story is Gina Marceau, his former lover. Throughout the episode, she makes repeated attempts to reach the man he used to be and make him remember her, but she is unsuccessful as he loses touch with his humanity. His decline in performance and mental state led to a tragic conclusion. Upon discovering the doctor's plan to let him die in the line of duty, Billy went on a massive rampage, killing the doctor and many of his AD Police colleagues. In his final moments, he pleaded with Gina to shoot his tongue so he could feel pain one last time, and she ultimately stopped him with a large anti-tank gun. His story ends with his burial on a hill as Gina remembers his past.
