Description
Dr. Brandow is a character who appears in the anime Steel Angel Kurumi, introduced as a scientist with a prior connection to the Steel Angel Project. His past is shrouded in mystery from the moment of his arrival, as he joins the Imperial Army with a particular interest in the military’s efforts to develop and control the Steel Angels.

Physically, Dr. Brandow is depicted as a slender man with blonde or yellow hair that reaches his shoulders, framing a face with blue eyes. He is almost always seen wearing glasses and a standard white lab coat over a tie, which reinforces his professional identity as a researcher. His calm and collected demeanor, suggested by his neat appearance, masks a highly calculating and untrustworthy nature.

His primary role in the story is that of an antagonist and a wild card. While he initially appears to be an ally of the Imperial Army, brought in to assist with the activation of the second Steel Angel prototype, Saki, his true loyalties are revealed to be his own. Dr. Brandow is instrumental in the forced activation of the Steel Angel Saki, demonstrating his deep technical knowledge of the project. However, immediately after Saki is awakened in an unstable state, he betrays his temporary allies. He wounds and kidnaps the original creator of the Steel Angels, Dr. Ayanokoji, and then disappears, taking all of Dr. Ayanokoji’s research data related to the Steel Angel Project with him.

Following his disappearance, it is discovered that Dr. Brandow does not seem to officially exist in any records, leading to the assumption that he is part of a larger, unknown organization. This revelation positions him as a key agent in a secret third party, one that is manipulating events from the shadows. His actions serve as the catalyst for the main characters to journey to Izumo in search of the missing Dr. Ayanokoji, thus driving the central conflict of the series forward. Later narrative revelations confirm that Dr. Brandow is not merely a rogue scientist but a time traveler. Alongside Dr. Ayanokoji and another scientist named Dr. Walski, he came from the future to conduct experiments with the Steel Angels in the past, though his methods and goals put him in direct opposition to Dr. Ayanokoji. Beyond his scientific genius and his role as a treacherous kidnapper, no other notable abilities are documented. His development in the story is defined by his shift from a seemingly helpful military consultant to a primary instigator of the plot's central mystery.
