Description
Nobuko Oe is a 21-year-old student in her second year at the Furong Nursing College. She is a relative and close friend of Haruko Mihashi, the film’s main protagonist, and often spends time with their mutual classmates Tomoe Satou and Mitsuru Maeda. Nobuko is characterized by a practical and conscientious nature, showing a strong sense of responsibility toward her studies and the patients she encounters. When Haruko becomes deeply concerned about the dehumanizing treatment of the elderly widower Kijuro Takazawa, who has been strapped into the experimental Z-001 robotic bed, Nobuko stands by her friend without hesitation. She actively assists Haruko in efforts to uncover the truth behind the bed’s true purpose and to stop the inhuman care Takazawa receives. Her motivations are rooted in compassion and a desire to protect the dignity of the elderly, reflecting the core ethical questions the story explores. Nobuko’s role in the narrative is that of a supportive ally; she helps coordinate with the elderly hackers in the hospital’s geriatric ward and aids in the plan to free Takazawa from the rampaging machine. While she does not possess any extraordinary abilities, she contributes her nursing knowledge, loyalty, and steady resolve. Over the course of the film, Nobuko’s consistent presence reinforces the theme of solidarity among those who value human care over cold technology. Her friendship with Haruko remains her most significant relationship, and together they confront the bureaucracy and corruption surrounding the Z-001 project. Nobuko’s development is subtle but clear: she moves from a passive student to an active participant in a dangerous conspiracy, demonstrating that even ordinary individuals can make a stand when guided by empathy and moral conviction.
